Attention Freshman Girls: Dating in College is NOT the same as in High School! To steer clear of having your best friend wiping the mascara lines off your face, here is some advice:

Play hard to get (even if you are not): You’re excited to be at college, I get it. The hot guy at the party you’re crushing on will be around all year but your reputation won’t if you sleep with him the first night. Try to stay classy, even in that tight dress.

Don’t be Clingy: There is NOTHING more unattractive to a guy than a clingy girl, or guy for that matter! It’s the beginning of the year everyone is going out and meeting new people. Don’t stand next to your love interest all night like you’re attached at the hip. GIVE HIM SPACE, if he really likes you then he will make the effort.

Date a lot: This advice isn’t just for freshman. College is a time where you should be figuring out what qualities you do and do not like in a guy/girl. It takes some awful/awkward dates to appreciate the good ones. There is nothing wrong with getting dinner; even if it goes terribly wrong, it is still a learning experience.

Don’t Rush Into Things: Just because you made out last Thursday does not make him your boyfriend. Even if you like him a lot coming on too strong makes you look psycho. Take your time and “go with the flow” if things are meant to be, they will happen.

Don’t Isolate Yourself: It’s really hard to not want to spend all your time with a boyfriend, I get that. Keep in mind it’s your freshman year; this is the time where you should be making new friends! If you start dating someone right from the start (or come into college with a relationship) and isolate yourself, you’ll be dissappointed you never made the effort with your girlfriends when it ends and need someone to share a tub of Ben & Jerry’s with!

Get Rid of the High School Boyfriend (if its long distance): There is always that freshman girl who thinks her high school boyfriend is the ‘love of her life’ and stays in most nights skping or driving home to see him. Don’t be that girl! There is no need to be texting your long-distance boyfriend during the middle of the best party of the year. It might take a while but you’ll regret missing out!

Don’t Hook-up with Someone who has a Girlfriend: I feel like this tip should go without saying, but you would be surprised how often this happens. If you know that a boy has a girlfriend and is still trying to hook-up with you, STOP.  Hooking up with him one time will make you have a lifelong enemy (not worth it). Even more obvious DON’T date a guy who cheated on his girlfriend with you! If he is willing to cheat with you, he’s willing to cheat on you.

HAVE FUN: Its Freshman year, enjoy it! Just be aware of that all of your actions have consequences, especially when it comes to dating!
