Get excited ladies, because springtime at the U is fast approaching!!! Needless to say it’s my favorite season of the year here at UNH, because everything on campus gets better. T-hall lawn is booming with students laying and playing all around it, the weather is gorgeous, Ballard’s outside deck is packed with sunglass clad students, and outdoor cookouts and parties are seen happening all over. If this isn’t enough to help you get over your winter depression, than I have come up with 10 easy ways to help get you there that much faster, and say goodbye to those snowy blues and hello to the happiness of spring!

  1. SPRING CLEANING! It’s time to pack up all those warm sweatshirts, get rid of your snow ruined uggs, put away your hats and mittens, and make room for your spring clothes! This is the perfect time to really help your mood by putting all those clothes in a box, and hardcore cleaning your closet. Not only that but open up your windows, and let in the fresh air, as well as clean your room to really help bring springtime into your humble abode. I promise the cleaning will make you feel great, and make your room smell extra clean.

  2. SHOP! Now that you’ve cleaned that room out and made room for some great new spring wardrobes it’s time to go out and buy them! Forever 21, Express, Nordstrom, H&M, and Charlotte Russe all have their spring lines already out, and they all have affordable outfits that will completely glam up your spring without emptying your wallet. Try to find versatile outfits that you can mix and match in many ways, so by buying 3 shirts, 2 skirts, and some tanks you can have almost 10 different mix and match outfits depending on the occasion. It will make you that much more excited to go out, and you’ll look fabulous!

  3. Get a MANI/PEDI! Nothing makes a girl feel better about herself than a little primping and pampering, so go out and get yourself a nice manicure and pedicure at one of the downtown nail salons. Most of the salons offer a manicure and pedicure for around $35, which can easily be saved by just skipping a week’s worth of iced coffees and dinners out at Wildcat. To really cheer yourself up make sure you get a bright springy color too; like OPI’s Cajun shrimp!

  4. Update your IPOD! Nothing cheers me up faster than being able to blast new beats in my room, or car; so update that ipod to instantly change your mood! Adding songs like Nicki Minaj’s “Moment 4 life”, Lady Gaga’s “Born this Way”, or Flo Rida’s “Who Dat Girl” will automatically put you in a better mood, because you’ll be able to sing and dance your way to springtime.

  5. Take a Mini TRIP! Not all of us have the luxury of being able to go on crazy spring breaks like to Acapulco or Cancun, or have a nice relaxing vacation to the Bahamas; but don’t worry you are not out of luck! MegaBus and Fung Wah are just two of many buses that depart from Boston’s south station, and can take you anywhere in the country for only around $20! You can take the amtrack train right into south station from the Whit, and within a little over an hour you could be on your way to NYC for the weekend! One weekend I took the same trip, and for the bus, hotel, and food for the weekend only spent $200; which is extremely reasonable for an amazing weekend off-campus!

  6. Attend a WORKOUT CLASS at the Whit! The classes at the Whit are completely free, and run at tons of times during the day. All you have to do is go up to the front desk, and tell them you want a spring classes sticker. You fill out a form with your name and telephone number, and they give you the sticker to put on the back of your ID so you can attend the classes for all of spring. They have great classes like Zumba and tighter assests; that will not only cheer you up, but tone your body so you’ll look that much better in your spring wardrobe. Working out is a sure fire way to feel better about yourself, and boost your self confidence!

  7. GO Spray/ or regular TANNING once! Although tanning is found to be bad for your skin, going once or twice will not cause the detrimental skin effects that a lifetime of tanning does, and Vitamin D is a great way to boost endorphins in your body! Not only that but the Vitamin D is great for your skin, and will help get rid of those winter zits. If your not into real tanning, then spray tanning is just as great, and will give you a nice springtime glow, to help you look better in any outfit you put on!

  8. Try a FACIAL MASK! Many expensive spas have lavish facial and oxygen masks for you to pay for to try to clear up your skin, but store brand masks can work just as well, for around only $10! Just simply go to your local pharmacy or Walmart to try out some of the great masks that many brands such as Olay, Clean and Clear, or even Pro-active has. It will make your skin smooth, and clear, as well as get rid of the dry skin of winter and the blemishes holding you back from looking your amazing self!

  9. Join a CLUB or Group! Nothing makes you more depressed than thinking about your first semester and how you really did nothing but study, sleep, and eat. UNH has hundreds of clubs and groups on campus that you could join, as well as tons of springtime opportunities to play intramural sports on campus. By joining one of these student orgs, or playing on an intramural team it will give you something to look forward to each week, whether it be your game or your meetings. You’ll also meet tons of new people, and form great new friendships by doing these activities. Some of my favorites would be intramural soccer, the cooking club, or your major’s club such as the marketing club or marketing majors. It will look great on a resume, and you’ll love staying active and being involved on campus!

  10. TAKE TONS OF PICTURES! Every time you’re out with friends or having a blast during the day, remember to take lots of pictures whether it be on your iPhone, blackberry, or digital camera! These pictures will be memories to last a lifetime, and hanging them up or seeing them posted to your facebook will not only instantly put you in a better mood, but it will remind you of all the amazing times you’ve had at UNH already this year! I personally like to hang pictures all around my apartment, and make scrapbooks out of them in my spare time; because it reminds me of how amazing my friends are, as well as how amazing and exciting UNH is. These pictures will always cheer you up or make you laugh, and make that depression evaporate from your body almost as fast as the snow around us is!

So throw away those winter feelings of cabin fever and depression, and get ready for the happiness spring will bring you and all the amazing things that Springtime at the U has to offer! Remember girls, you need to love the life you live, and everything in it!
