Teen Olympians Who Are Doing Better at Life Than You

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNH chapter.

Every time the Olympics come around we all question our parents for not starting us in sports at in early age. As the winter Olympics wage on we look at the competitors that are younger than or the same age as us and wonder what are we doing with our lives? These young athletes are killing it at their events and when looking at their accomplishments we can’t help compare it to our not so luxurious life. So, let’s take a look at these amazing young athletes.

1. Chloe Kim

Event: Snowboard Halfpipe

Born: April 23, 2000 (Age: 17)

Chloe Kim has been dominating snowboarding for the past couple years and is the only athlete in X Games history to win three gold medals before the age of 16. She received a Gold medal for her near perfect run in women’s snowboard half pipe with a score of 98.25. When receiving her Gold medal she didn’t shed a tear and when asked about it, she told interviewers that she didn’t want to cry because she had worked too hard on her eyeliner. She’s clearly winning at life in all aspects.

2. Maame Biney

5.  Nico Porteous

Event: Ski Halfpipe

Born: November 23, 2001 (Age: 16).

Nico has become New Zealand’s youngest ever Olympian claiming a bronze medal in the men’s ski halfpipe. Nico was in the gold medal spot after his second run with a score of 94.80 and believed he put down the best run of his life and had nothing more to give in his third run so he opted out of it, keeping his second run score as his best. Ballsy move that paid off in the end.

6. Red Gerard

Event: Snowboard Slopestyle

Born: June 29, 2000 (Age: 17)

You may have heard about him because his name has been plastered all over social media. This teen Olympian has us all saying ‘same’. He woke up late because he was up all night binge watching Netflix. He then had to borrow his roommate’s jacket because he couldn’t find his. On top of all that, he was in last place until his final run where he laid down some serious tricks to pull himself into the Gold medal spot. When he saw his score he proceeded to say “holy f*ck” on national television. We can all relate Red; well not to the Gold medal part.

The teen athletes don’t stop here. There were many more young competitors this winter Olympics, here’s the list:

Wu Meng (15) — Ski Halfpipe (China)

Jennie-Lee Burmansson (15) — Ski Slopestyle (Sweden)

Zhang Kexin (15) — Ski Halfpipe (China)
