This week’s Campus Celebrity is Shane Morin, probably one of the luckiest students at UNH. This past summer he landed an internship opportunity with an NFL Team, the St. Louis Rams. I had a chance to catch up with Shane this week and find out all about his summer with the Rams!

Q. What year are you and what is your major?
A. I am a senior, Communications Major.

Q. What was the title of your position this summer?
St. Louis Rams Football Operations and Coaching Staff Intern

Q. So everyone is dying to know, how did you get this awesome internship?
A,. My godfather is the head football coach at Temple University. He has friends coaching and working in both college and professional football. He has a buddy who works with the St. Louis Rams and made a phone call for me.

Q. Tell me about your duties of the internship. Were you actually in St. Louis?
A. Yes, I lived in St. Louis for the last 6 weeks of the summer. I worked directly with players and the coaches. I recorded statistics during practices and pre-season games. I traveled on a private charter to the away games. I sat in on coaching meetings. I had a locker in the locker room. I helped produce practice schedules, travel itineraries as well as game day itineraries.

Q. What was your favorite part of the internship?
A. My favorite part was just being a part of the organization and team. All the coaches and a majority of the players knew me by name. I ate all my meals with the team. I was with the players for 14-16 hours a day. It was really cool being around professional athletes all the time.

Q. Why did you decide to work an internship in the NFL?
A. I always wanted to work in the sports industry. I contacted my godfather and he got me in. It is a competitive industry and I used the one connection I had to try and get my self in.  My dream is to have the same position as the guy I interned for. He pretty much does everything for the team except coach. He is in charge of organizing everything from flight and hotel accommodations, to player meals, and even equipment orders. It is a very intense job, but at the same time, I think its one of the coolest jobs you can have.

Q. What was the outcome of your internship with the St. Louis Rams?
A. I made a lot of connections and hopefully have a future working in the NFL.

Q. So, a little birdy told me that you’re an amazing hockey player and you have been selected to go to Europe to play hockey this winter. Tell me more!
A. I was selected as an all-star athlete for the North East All-Star team. There were a total of sixteen All-Star teams from all over the U.S. that playing in a tournament in Philadelphia. At the tournament, one team was selected to go to Europe for an international tournament. We are going to be playing in Germany, Croatia, Slovania, and Austria. While we are there we are going to be playing 5 games in 10 days against Semi Pro Hockey Teams from Europe. The tournament is going to be held December 27-January 5.
