Dealing with “senioritis” as a last-semester senior in college

Senioritis can hit hard when trying to finish up your last semester of college. As someone who is currently battling burnout every single day, I’m going to share my advice to stay motivated leading up to graduation.

First off it’s essential to maintain a balance between school work and fun events. Prioritizing schoolwork before and after class is a good system to stay on task. I try my best to balance my schoolwork on the weekdays by going to the library or a cute study area for two to three hours a day to stay productive and get things done. Then when I come home at night, I can relax with my friends and hang out without feeling the guilt of falling behind in school.

Sometimes it’s hard to get up in the morning without motivation, so using a reward system is also a way to motivate yourself to get work done. This can be anything from getting a coffee, going to a workout class, or getting dinner with friends. It can also be helpful to have a friend who’s on the same page as you who you can do homework with. Having some sort of motivation at the end of each day, even if it’s just a good night’s rest, can be beneficial in pushing through the burnout feeling.

Making plans on the weekends can also be a way to look forward to the weeks ahead, and keep that motivation going during the week. Completing your schoolwork by Friday and leaving your weekend open to have fun and enjoy your last few weeks is a great way to keep a good school and life balance.

To all the seniors, we are almost done with school. Although it’s tough right now, the outcome will be so rewarding.

I am currently a senior environmental engineering and sustainability dual major student at UNH. I am from Carver, MA and love going to the beach, hanging out with friends, and walking my dog.
