The Perfect Morning Routine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNH chapter.

How you chose to start your morning can leave an impact on how your entire day will go. Becoming a morning person can give you with an optimistic mindset and leave you ready to take on the day. I definitely have struggled with being a morning person. Especially when your bed is super comfortable and asking you to stay snuggled up all day long. This temptation unfortunately had to end when I had 8 amps Monday through Friday. Due to my new schedule, I had to change my morning routine. With research, I finally discovered the best makeover on how to define my perfect morning.

First, you have to discipline yourself to not hit snooze. This is the golden key for a start to a perfect morning. As hard as it might be to hit snooze, the quicker you get out of bed the better you will feel. For me it helps to change the label on my alarm to something positive like “wake up and have a good day”.

Secondly, you should open your blinds. Waking up to natural sunlight is the best way to activate your brain and get you feeling positive. Also, before you get out of bed, try to avoid going on your phone and instead visualize your day and how you want it to turn out.

Always make your bed! It’s the best way to get yourself going and helps you to start the day when you cross the first task of your list.

Wash your face and brush your teeth. Yes, this is a given but it gets you to start feeling fresh and not to mention its good for you!

One of my personal favorites is a five-minute stretch and a quick three-minute meditation. These activities are quick, simple and will activate your mind and body. Another great way to activate your body is by drinking water and will help your body flush out toxins.

It helps if you pick out your outfit for the day the night before. That way you don’t have to spend extra time or worry picking out a cute outfit for the day. Also follow your regular beauty routine and say one positive thing to yourself in the mirror.

Leave on time!! There is nothing more satisfying than being on your way to start your day five minutes earlier than you normally would.

Lastly treat yourself. I’m the biggest advocate for rewarding yourself for everyday tasks. I love to stop for a coffee at Breaking New Grounds or Saxby’s on the way to class. There is nothing like a tasty mocha latte or cappuccino to get you excited!

It takes time but following these simple steps can leave you with more positive days and a better outlook on your week. As wonderful as it is to sleep in, starting your day right and motivating yourself can leave you feeling happier and healthier.
