An Open Letter To My Sister

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNH chapter.

I’m not really sure where to begin, so I guess I’ll start with thank you.

Thank you for absolutely everything you have done for me throughout my life. I cannot express my gratitude enough, you have been there through it all with me. You are truly my best friend and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Our endless amount of memories together is something I will cherish all my life. The countless One Direction dance parties, the cries, the endless laughs, Youtube and Grey’s Anatomy binge-watching sessions, Wendy’s trips that’ll definitely catch up to us one day, the cringe Snapchat videos of us doing hilariously weird things, are moments I will forever hold on to. I love the phone calls and text conversations where we randomly bring up old memories and unlock that part of our brain, and laugh for hours about the stupid things we would do together. It’s always nice to sit here and reminisce on the good ole days.

The day I called you crying at college when I felt like my entire world was falling apart, and you drove up to see me for just a few hours to be there for me and bring me comfort is something I will always appreciate. You have always, always, been unconditionally there for me. You are my own personal therapist and understand me better than I understand myself. You show me time and time again how truly selfless and empathetic you are. You never fail to give me the best advice you possibly can. You are always listening to me rant about the smallest, stupidest things. You have given me endless support with whatever I decide to do. You have helped me grow in so many ways, and I truly cannot thank you enough for that.

You continue to inspire me each and every day. No word of a lie, you are incredible. You are beautiful in so many ways, you have the biggest heart, the kindest soul, and you work so damn hard. I am so proud of you and all that you have accomplished in your life. As much as you have seen me grow, I have seen you grow as well and it has been beautiful. Life isn’t easy at times, but you are one of the strongest people I know. I can only dream of being as selfless, empathetic, genuine, and kind as you are. You inspire me to be a better person every day, to work harder than I ever have for the things I want, and to appreciate the life I have and those who are in it.

I know I can be a real pain in the butt from time to time, and I make jokes at your expense (maybe a little too often), but I hope you know how much I appreciate you and how grateful I am to have you as my sister. I could write forever about how grateful I am for you and everything you have done for me. I only hope I can do the same for you, and that my gratitude is expressed and that you know that I would wholeheartedly walk through fire for you. You deserve nothing but the best in this life. I cannot wait to see where life takes you and how many more amazing things you do.

I am forever indebted to you. You have been, and always will be, my number one best friend. I will always support you in all that you do. I cannot imagine this life without you by my side as my sister. There is no one else I’d rather steal clothes from, argue over stupid things with, jam out with, and have as my partner in crime. I love you from the bottom of my heart, always have and always will. Thank you for everything you are and do.
