The days are getting colder and shorter, and that means one thing: Christmas is getting closer! I’m a firm believer in the Christmas season starting November 1st (controversial, I know), and I’m always looking for fun ways to celebrate my favorite holiday right here on campus. Here are some of my top recommendations!
- Decorate Your Dorm Room: Dressing up your dorm with a few cute Christmas decorations is a great way to get into the holiday spirit! It doesn’t have to be complicated either, you can put up string lights, a small fake tree, and/or some small Christmas trinkets to merry up your room! Make it even more fun by inviting some friends over and making your own decorations (throwback to those paper snowflakes from elementary school)!
- Cozy Up With a Hot Drink and Christmas Music: This is a great way to stay productive while also feeling festive. I like to go to a cute coffee shop (Freedom Café is my favorite near UNH), get a hot coffee or specialty drink, and listen to my Christmas playlist. Depending on your mood (and your workload) you can bring a good book or some homework!
- Host a Christmas Movie Watch Party: Invite over some friends, wear your favorite Christmas PJs, and queue up your favorite Christmas movie! This is a great, relaxing way to unwind at the end of a cold day.
- Find Christmas Events Near You: Keep an eye out for posters around campus and Christmas events in nearby towns. You’d be surprised how many fun options you’ll find! From chill craft nights, to holiday craft fairs, to Christmas concerts, there’s something for everyone!
- Go Ice Skating: There’s not much that feels more Christmas-y than going ice skating! During open skate at UNH, you can rent ice skates for just a few dollars at the Whit. It’s a lot of fun!
- Secret Santa or Yankee Swap: This list wouldn’t be complete without these classic gift-giving traditions! Whether it’s with your club, friend group, or roommates, they add some excitement and surprise to giving and receiving Christmas presents. Buy some Christmas cookies, put on some Christmas music or a movie, and have fun!
There are so many fun ways to get in the Christmas spirit without leaving your college campus! Pick a few off this list or come up with some creative activities of your own and have fun! Happy Holidays!
