Gifts for Him: Valentine’s Day Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNH chapter.

Valentine’s Day is this week ladies! OK, so I know we are all hoping that we are lucky enough to receive a dozen red roses or a box of chocolate covered strawberries on Friday for this special February day that celebrates St. Valentine, but have we even been thinking about what to get our guys?! Whether he’s your boyfriend, crush, or friend I bet there is at least one special guy in your life hoping he will receive a gift from you almost as much as you expect one from him on the 14th.

I have complied a spectacular gifts-for-him list, some specific for UNH and others not. Hopefully you girls can find at least one thing you absolutely HAVE to buy or do for your Valentine’s Day cutie.

Do His Chores

Today is the perfect day to find your inner house wife. Make his bed while he’s in his 8AM class, or throw in his laundry and fold it up nice and neat. It’s really a super easy thing to do and I guarantee you he will appreciate it so much. Not to mention, how can he not be in a romantic mood after that!

Satisfy His Sweet Tooth

Girlies, we aren’t the only ones who get chocolate cravings! Hit up the local candy store, such as The Candy Bar on Main Street in Durham, where you can find basically anything covered in chocolate. From chocolate coated gummy bears to classic heart shaped chunks, to chocolaty bacon (uhh…) you’ll find something to get his mouth watering.

Prepare a Scavenger Hunt

Ah I WILL do this one day. I have always wanted to set up little notes/goodies for a special guy around campus and around town and have him follow each one to a different designated spot. Make the first spot a place you know he will be and is bound to see the note, like his room.

Then write a clue on it that leads him to a spot close to the heart, like the place you first met or where you had your first date. Keep it going for as long as you can and have it end with something special like a big gift or simply just to you! He’ll love the adventure and the memories you have shared will all clearly come back to him as he works through it.

Visit The Man-Porium

Located in Portsmouth, NH, this shop just for guys sells a variety of gifts ranging from shaving and grooming products to must-read books just for men. The business is located on Congress Street right near Market Square, so it’s easy to access from campus via The Wildcat Transit.

Become a Baker

The only thing better than cookies, are homemade ones. If you live in the dorms there is usually a community kitchen residents are allowed to used, or find a friend with an apartment that will allow you to make it smell delicious! Tie up your baked good in a festive Valentine’s Day baggie, and add a note that writes something like “I know you’re sweet enough, but enjoy these cookies anyway!” Follow this recipe using festive red, pink and white M&Ms:

1 cup Crisco shortening1 cup packed light brown sugar1/2 cup sugar2 large eggs1 teaspoon vanilla2 1/4 cups flour1 teaspoon salt1 teaspoon baking soda1 1/2 cups M&M’s plain chocolate candy

Directions:Cream together shortening and sugars until light and fluffy.Add eggs and vanilla and beat until combined.Add combined flour, salt, and baking soda and mix until well combined.Stir in 1/2 cup M&Ms.Drop by Tbsp onto ungreased cookie sheet.Press 2-3 M&Ms onto top of each cookie.Bake in 375°F for 10-12 minutes.

I am a junior business student at the University of New Hampshire with concentrations in marketing and management. I very much enjoy writing about relationships and love but hope to also write about sports, health, and fitness in the future as I am really passionate about working out and eating well.
