So you might not find it in a medical encyclopedia, or even the dictionary, but FOMO is definitely real. For those of you who don’t know what FOMO is, it is in acronym for “Fear Of Missing Out’. It is a not-so-serious ailment that I am suffering from right now as I sit on my couch with my parents at home on a perfectly fun Thursday night, receiving snapchats, selfies, texts, etc. of all the perfectly fun things I could be doing besides reading for my English classes.
If you are anything like me, seeing all your friends having fun together without you really kick starts the symptoms: compulsively checking all forms of social media every three seconds even though obviously nothing has changed since the last time you checked, snapchatting your friends in hopes of receiving one back that will actually provide excitement to your homework-filled night, and, of course, the inevitable sending of the “FOMO” text.
So next time you suffer from a bout and feel that bit of shame for having FOMO, just know that you are not alone (and actually, you should take pride in the fact that you share a similar trait as the wise man, Scott Disick).
