We live in a time where more and more things are being accepted in our society that may have been considered different, odd, or even frowned-upon in the past, and UNH has certainly hopped on that train, recognizing individuality and personal expression as very important characteristics every college student should feel comfortable to show. Every type of style is acknowledged here; however, if you are anything like me when I started here, you are curious about what types of clothes other students typically wear so you know what to start buying in order to be fully prepared. The following is a list of a few of the brands and clothing types you will see around campus.
Active Wear:
I know this is a very broad category, so I’m going to break it down for you. Leggings, t-shirts, tank tops, athletic jackets, yoga pants, pullovers, baseball hats, and athletic shoes are all essential wardrobe pieces you will want to stock up on! Active wear is what most girls wear to class every day. It’s comfy, casual, and you can walk long distances in it. Popular brands include: Under Armor, Brooks, Nike, Champion, Lulu Lemon, and New Balance.
UNH Gear:
UNH sweatpants, t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and shorts are also items you will see the majority of students at UNH wearing to classes and around campus and town in general. The UNH bookstore, Town and Campus, and Hayden Sports are great places around Durham to grab all this gear! These pieces are also what students wear for all the sporting events.
Causal Wear:
Other popular items you will see on a day-to-day basis are: jeans, t-shirts, denim jackets, sweaters, bomber jackets, raincoats, shorts, and skirts. I consider having at least 7 pairs of jeans and at least 7 cute t-shirts/tops absolutely necessary to a college girl’s wardrobe because you will not have the time or patience to do laundry more than once a week. As far as raincoats, you will need at least one good raincoat that you can wear with anything because the weather in New Hampshire can change at any movement and you will want to be prepared (on that note, also bring a good umbrella, I recommend a bubble umbrella so your backpack doesn’t get wet.)
Evening Wear:
For all you ladies who are night owls and like to let loose when the sun goes down, you will definitely want to add some fundamental pieces to your evening wardrobe. A few pieces you will want to grab before school starts are: rompers, off-the-shoulder tops, crop tops, pencil skirts, mini dresses, and cute tank tops/shirts. Don’t spend too much money on this category though, just because these clothes will likely get ruined throughout the year, either from food, drinks, weather, or general behavior. I recommend getting these types of clothes at places like Forever 21, H&M, BooHoo, SheIn, or Tobi.
Shoes:
My FAVORITE accessory… having the right shoes is crucial to the overall vibe of your day. You will see any and every type of shoe here at UNH. The short list is: flip flops, sandals, sneakers, boots, booties, and athletic shoes. Some common brands are: Nike, Forever 21, Brooks, L.L. Bean, Adidas, Birkenstocks, Converse, Sperry, New Balance, Hunter’s, Sam Edelman, and Steve Madden. Having different shoes to wear to class, to the gym, and at night is very important because each activity will have different wear-and-tear on them.
These are just generalizations of what the majority of girls wear on a day-to-day basis here at UNH but you can truly find so many more styles and preferences that whatever you choose to wear/bring is perfectly fine as long as it suits you! I hope this helps!
