Name: Carolyn Cochran
Year: First year at UAB dental school

HC: Why is being a girl in dental school so awesome?
CC: Well, there’s only 18 of us, and only 4 girls went to undergrad at UAB. Surprisingly that’s a lot… usually there are only 4 total girls in a dental school class.

HC: What’s your average day like in dental school?
CC: I get up at 7, and go to school from 8 am to 5 pm.

HC: How did you prepare for dental school while you were still an undergrad?
CC: I was a Biology major and during the summer I took a Kaplan course and studied for the DAT exam.

HC: What’s your least favorite part of dental school?
CC: My least favorite are the fundamental tests every Monday at 7:45 a.m.

HC: What’s the coolest thing you’ve learned or done so far?
We drill on fake teeth, so that is really fun. I enjoy that.

HC: What’s the thing you’re most excited about when you’re an official “doctor”?
CC: The white coat of course! Right now I only have a short one, but the full-length one looks so official!

Jaime is a junior at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. There she is the captain of her varsity golf team and a journalism and English double-major. She is an active member in the Student Athletic Advisory Committee where she helps organize volunteer opportunities and social functions for student-athletes at UAB. Jaime enjoys cooking, entertaining friends, reading/writing blogs, fashion, and of course, golf. She aspires to eventually write for a major magazine or write chick-lit books.
Alexandra is a graduate from the University of New Hampshire and the current Assistant Digital Editor at Martha Stewart Living. As a journalism student, she worked as the Director of UNH’s Student Press Organization (SPO) and on staff for four student publications on her campus. In the summer of 2010, she studied abroad at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge University, in England, where she drank afternoon tea and rode the Tube (but sadly no, she did not meet Prince Harry). Since beginning her career, her written work has appeared in USA Today College, Huffington Post, Northshore, and MarthaStewart.com, among others. When not in the office, she can be found perusing travel magazines to plan her next trip, walking her two dogs (both named Rocky), or practicing ballet. Chat with her on Twitter @allie_churchill.
