I am a HUGE advocate for being your own valentine. I do have a boyfriend, but I think it is important to show yourself some love too. There are so many ways to love yourself daily, but I think Valentine’s Day gives oneself the perfect opportunity. Couples give each other candy, silly little stuffed animals, and flowers every year on February 14th. Why can’t we do that for ourselves? I’m now saying you can.

My favorite way to love myself on Valentine’s Day is buying a bouquet of flowers to put on my windowsill along with a bag of my favorite candy. I put on my favorite chick flick or rom-com that I have seen a million times and my boyfriend refuses to watch again. This year, I plan on having a full day of self-care and a little spa day as well.

Though it is amazing to spend Valentine’s Day with a significant other, you can still be your own Valentine. You do not need another person to show you the love that you deserve. So, I challenge you this year to spend at least some part of Valentine’s Day loving yourself!

I’m a Junior at UNH. My major is Human Development and Family Studies with a focus on family support.
