The Basics of Astrology

Astrology is something I’ve seen become increasingly popular on the internet, however, as someone who’s still learning more and more each day, it can be kind of hard to understand. Astrology has the basis of twelve astrological signs; Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces. Everyone at some point has looked up the sign their birthday falls under. That is called your sun sign, it is the core of who you are and your basic identity. Each sign has a symbol corresponding with it, whether it be an animal, human, or an object. However, it goes much deeper than one sign. The three main signs people focus on are the Sun, Moon and Rising signs. These signs are determined based on the date, time and place of your birth. Your Moon rules your moods and emotions, whereas your Rising sign is your “mask” to the world and how you appear to others. Astrology goes much deeper than these three aspects, and I encourage you to look deeper into it and in turn, into yourself. It can help you understand yourself and others, as well as gaining a different perspective for looking at things. Here are some of the main characteristics of each sign:

Aries: The Ram. Full of energy, life, and courage. They enjoy a challenge and are more likely than other signs to be natural leaders. However, they can be impatient when they have to follow a routine and have hot tempers. They are optimistic and forgive easily.

Taurus: The Bull. Peaceful in their movements, but willing to work hard for the things that make these people happy. They like comfort and aesthetics. They can be stubborn, but they don’t lose their temper easily (but stay clear when they do!). These people are solid, reliable, and provide stability for others.

Gemini: The Twins. Enjoys being with other people and loves sharing ideas. These people are typically talented at writing, teaching, and public speaking. Communication is very important for them, therefore, making them very sociable.

Cancer: The Crab. They are very home-loving people and are fond of their families. They will hang onto things that they love or that make them happy and can be shy and sensitive. They are also brave and courageous when protecting their friends and loved ones.

Leo: The Lion. Dignified, relaxed, like to think big, don’t enjoy things that are too detailed or dull, and they like to lead rather than being ordered around. These people need plenty of love and attention and can feel hurt when they are ignored. They are very good at being the center of attention, entertaining.

Virgo: The Virgin. There is a cool, and clear quality to the way they think. These people are usually gentle and quiet, detail-oriented, hard workers, and are often happy to be alone. They are always ready to help others and very sympathetic.

Libra: The Scales. Need equal amounts of everything in their life to be happy. They need to keep the balance between work and play, thoughts and emotions, and they sometimes have trouble making decisions. Always strive for perfection and balance, with love and beauty around them. One of the most important things is harmony. They love companionship.

Scorpio: The Scorpion. These people usually need plenty of time by themselves to think and feel deeply. They can sometimes be very quiet, shy and sensitive. They feel things very intensely and are self-understanding. Many Scorpios have a strong sense of justice. Many are good at things that require deep thought or understanding.

Sagittarius: The Centaur. They generally love traveling, meeting new people, and always want to learn something new. They also need plenty of freedom, can be unhappy if they feel tied down, can have restless and adventurous minds. Many are interested in philosophy and the world of ideas, they can also love a good time and are fun to be with.

Capricorn: The Goat. Hard-working, especially towards a goal. Usually, they have plenty of discipline and are successful in what they do. Family life and work are equally important. They tend to take life seriously, can be quiet and diplomatic. However, they can be very fun once you get to know them.

Aquarius: The Water Carrier. They are generous, and often humanitarians. They are interested in people and will feel concern for others. Many are clever at science or may support political movements. Not as emotional as other signs, because they are more interested in the exchanging of ideas and helping others.

Pisces: The Fish. They love music and frequently daydreams. They tend to have a private inner world but can be deeply compassionate towards other people who are unhappy. Others can find these people hard to understand sometimes because Pisces feel so deeply. They love very strongly and are happiest when they have something or someone to be devoted to.

I hope this helped those who want an easy introduction to the world of astrology.
