Here’s some advice I wish I had my Freshman Year:

  1. It’s easy to get overwhelmed and feel stressed. But you need to take a deep breath in and realize that everything gets better with time. Eventually you will get into the hang of college.
  2. It’s going to be weird to live with a complete stranger you met off Facebook. You may not get along and that is perfectly normal. But, if your lucky your roommate is going to be your rock. They will be there no matter what. They will listen to you talk for hours and laugh at all of the stupid things you do. The memories you make with them will be unforgettable.
  3. You are going to get homesick and think about transferring within the first couple weeks being at school. You are going to miss your friends and family. You need to realize there just a phone call away. They will be there right when you get home.
  4. You may not stay in contact with all your hometown friends like you thought you would. However, the ones you stay in contact with you will realize how lucky you are to have friends like them.
  5. The beginning of the year is going to be way different than the end. You are going to end up meeting so many people and make a whole new group of friends.
  6. You are going to study for a test for hours and try your best. However, you are not always going to get the grade you want. That is okay, college work is much different then high school work.
  7. You are going to have to do presentations in front of large lecture halls.  You are going to want to switch out of it and stress over it everyday. Just know, it is not bad. When you get it over with you are going to be so proud of yourself and be surprised at what a great job you did.
  8. You also may not know what you want to major in, don’t worry you have plenty of time to figure that out.
  9. The dining halls are your best friend. You may not like it at first but it is way better than making your own food. Also, sitting at Philly for hours people watching and eating multiple meals at a time is perfectly normal.
  10. You are going to be broke at one point at school, don’t worry we all are!
  11. You are going to meet a lot of cute boys…trust me a lot! Some may break your heart and others may end up doing the complete opposite. That okay, that’s life and in the end everything will work out.
  12. If you have a long walk to or from class it is a perfect time to catch up on calling your family, they will love it.
  13. You are going to grow as an individual. You will become very independent and strong. You will mature and accept the fact that you are an adult.
  14. You are going to realize that freshmen year is one of the best years of your life, there is truly nothing like it.
  15. UNH will become your home!
