All too often we are caught up in our everyday routines leaving no time for ourselves. We go to class, do homework, go to the gym, watch Netflix, eat, sleep and repeat on a regular basis. While there’s nothing wrong with having a daily routine, it doesn’t hurt to add some R&R into your busy life. Loving who you are and the life you were granted is so important and sometimes all it takes is a little self-care and reflection.

Here are 6 things you can do that will help you to feel better about yourself:

1.      UNPLUG

Take a break from the electronics. Go to a yoga class, relax in the living room with your suitemates, just distance yourself from your phone or your laptop for a little while each day even if it’s just for 20 minutes. You will feel more in touch with yourself and those around you!

2.      Remember Who Cares About You

Sometimes just stopping to think about the important people in your life is all it takes to keep you going on rough days. When you’re stressed out and hating your life because of school work or just a bad day remember all the people who love and care about you and reach out to them. Reconnecting with loved ones can really turn your bad mood right around.

3.      You do YOU

Stop worrying about what others think of you! I know it’s not that easy to do, but little by little start doing things for yourself. If your friends want to go out one night and you don’t, stay in. If you feel like you’re trapped in a relationship going nowhere, end it. You’ll be surprised at how great you’ll feel when you just focus on YOU.

4.      Treat Yo-Self

I know you want to eat that froyo… or that chocolate bar your roommate’s mom sent you for Valentine’s Day that you’ve be avoiding. JUST EAT IT. Indulging once in a while isn’t bad for you. If your body is really craving ice cream one night or a large popcorn at the movies just do it.

5.      Go On An Adventure

If you’re feeling adventurous one day, take your friends, pack some food and go somewhere. Even if it’s just a quick trip to the nearest beach or to a hiking trail nearby, getting outside and doing something different instead of your daily routine will give you a boost of happiness you need.

6.      Appreciate What You Have

Reflect on how lucky you are to be where you are right now. You have friends and family who love you unconditionally; so if you’re going through a rough patch, don’t stress, you’ll get through it. This is only a bump along the road and eventually all of your hard work will pay off. Appreciate the things you have because there are others who are a whole lot less fortunate.
