5 Ways to Get in the Holiday Spirit

Updated Published
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNH chapter.
  1. Bake Christmas cookies (here are some of my favorites):
  • Sugar cookies
  • Gingerbread cookies
  • Pillsbury holiday cookies
  • Peanut butter blossoms

2. Watch your favorite Christmas movies

Christas movies are a great way to get into the holiday spirt with your friends and family. You can even make some of the cookies listed above while watching these movies.

Heres some of my favorite classics!

  • A Year Without a Santa Claus
  • Home Alone and Home Alone 2
  • The Grinch
  • Elf
  • The Santa Clause, The Santa Clause 2 and The Santa Clause 3
  • National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

3. Go see the local Christmas light shows around your town

Bundle up and go watch a Christmas light show with your family and friends. This is a great way to get into the holiday spirit while also spending quality time with the people you love. Some places even do drive through light shows if you don’t want to be too cold!

4. Build gingerbread houses

One of my favorite things to do around the holidays is a gingerbread-house-making competition with your family and friends. Make a couple of teams and see who can make the best Christmas themed house!

5. Make some hot cocoa

Making hot cocoa is another one of my favorite things to do, not just during the holiday season, but all winter long. You can go to the store and get packets or experiment with making your own. You can add different flavors, marshmallows and candy canes to it!
