5 Extremely Unattractive Dating Habits

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNH chapter.

Spring is slowly approaching on the UNH campus which means more nights out with your friends, days in the sun, and plently of dating. But before you head out to dinner with your spring semester crush, here are a few things you should NOT do:

5 Unattractive Dating Habits:

1. Texting during dinner

This tip is helpful for girls AND guys. Probably the most frustrating thing is trying to have a conversation with someone whose eyes are glued to their iPhone screen, and a guy is going to think the same thing. How do you attempt to connect with someone while in an in-depth conversation with you friend, which most likely can wait until tomorrow. Plus, your dates not only going to think you’re rude, but uninterested, which definitely doesn’t encourage him to ask you out on date #2.

2. Chewing with your mouth open and swearing

You should probably already know this, but guys date girls for one simple reason: because they act like girls. It’s important to keep in mind your table etiquette, because acting like a lady can be an extremely attractive quality. Throwing around the F-bomb with a mouth full of food doesn’t exactly scream girlfriend material, so remember to be polite just like your mother taught you to be.

3. Being late/canceling

Not only is it rude, but being late or canceling on dates on short notice will definitely turn your date off. Try and give yourself an extra half hour to get ready so your dates not awkwardly waiting in the living room with your roommates, and if you do have to cancel, make sure to put in the effort to reschedule.

4. Talking about your ex

This is one of the worst habits I think girls have, talking about their ex. Your date definitely doesn’t want to be compared to someone it obviously didn’t work out with, so keep your mouth shut about your most recent breakup, and live in the present. Happy girls are the most attractive girls.

5. Talking about your hook-ups

Did your date just name-drop your “one night stand” from freshman year? Brush it off. Don’t make it obvious that you’ve had past relations with him, because all it’s going to do is make your date wonder how many guys there have been in the past, even if there wasn’t a lot. Keep your past in the past, and never discuss your magic number, it never leads to anything good!
