Today I turn the big 2 0. I have been looking forward to this day for a while now, seeing your 20’s are supposed to be the best years of your life. But it made me think back on everything I have learned over my last 20 years. Some lessons where easy to learn and others took some time to figure out, but I believe these have been my 20 most important life lessons.
.) Embrace change- probably my most difficult lesson to learn, change has always been hard for me. But over the last year I have been able to see the greatness change can bring and have been able to handle it better
.) Google can answer anything and everything
.) Don’t let things get to you- the less you care, the happier you will be
.) Work hard for what you want- set goals and work to achieve them. If your goals are important to you the time and patience they take to achieve will be worth it.
.) Learn to laugh at your embarrassing moments you hear about Sunday morning
.) Commit random acts of kindness- nothing makes some ones days better than little surprises
.) Be attentive to your friendships- especially your oldest friends who have stuck around. Going off to college it was hard to stay in touch with friends back home at first but I learned even just a quick phone call or text can help stay close.
.) Procrastination leads to nothing but stress and a lot of Redbull
.) Mom is always right. Period.
.) Learn how to say your sorry…I might still be working on this…
.) Make compromises in your relationships- living with roommates can be hard at times, but if you learn to make some compromises life gets easier
.) Do what your guts says- if it feels wrong don’t do it.
.) There are an infinite amount of times you can watch Friends and Mean Girls
.) Family first
.) Patience takes practice- with two younger sisters patience has never been a strong skill but I believe college has not only made us closer because I don’t see them everyday but has also made me more patient with them
.) Try new foods- some of my favorite foods were things I never imagined putting in my mouth
.) Learn from your mistakes and failures
.) Step outside your comfort zone
.) Count your blessings- be grateful for all the opportunities you have been giving
.) Have fun- you’re only 20 once
