15 Things To Thank Your Freshman Year Roommate For

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNH chapter.

Freshman year of college has to be one of the most highly anticipated yet seemingly scary times in your life. There are so many unanswered questions going in. Will I make friends? Can I really handle living on my own? What if guys live on my floor and see me with make up running down my face after a shower?

But nothing is scarier than imagining your freshman year roommate. This person has the ability to set the tone of your entire college career. Is she going to be fun and outgoing? Will she understand your undying love for Blink 182 in the year 2015? Is this going to be one of those Leighton Meester in The Roommate situations? These are the questions we needed to ask ourselves repeatedly before entering college. The prospect of living with a random girl you’ve never met is scary, but lucky for me I ended up turning my random, scary roommate into one of my best friends. And now it’s time to say thank you for starting off my college career in the best way possible.

1. Thanks for being completely honest with me (especially when it came to my questionable freshman year outfits)

This face was enough to tell me I shouldn’t be wearing a leopard print crop top (or leopard print anything for that matter)

2. Thanks for being so easygoing

I can’t be more thankful for a roommate like you. Even when my laundry pile was obscene and my stuff was all over the room after a night out. Even when I wanted to over anaylze a text message for the 400th time. You were always down for whatever.

3. Thank you for laughing at the jokes that weren’t even funny

4. Thank you for respecting the fact that I made the same meal at Philly every time we went (which was often)

Turkey with lettuce, provolone and mayo on a wheat wrap for life.

5. Thanks for having great fashion sense (and providing me with a second closet)

Me every single night

6. Thanks for being just as intrusive as I was when we barged into strangers bedrooms to make friends

7. Thanks for staying up until 2am even before your early classes to talk with me for hours

There’s nothing I cherised more than just talking and laughing about every little thing that became funny when it was way past the time we should’ve been asleep.

8. Thanks for understanding that I would sit in my towel after a shower for at least 2 hours

9. Thanks for not judging me when I consumed an entire bag of Reese’s in one sitting.

10. And thanks for not judging me when I would skip Psych to watch Netflix

One class is enough for one day.

11. Thanks for cuddling with me during the Christensen Creeper epidemic of 2013

Even though we were just 2 girls in a twin sized bunk bed overreacting.

12. Thanks for laughing at me when I did something stupid

Will I ever be able to forget when I showered in my clothes? Nope.

13. And thanks for never letting me forget any of my embarrassing moments

Most of these occurred at PBG. No regrets. Just love. (But really, lots of regrets)

14. Thanks for being my rational other half

When I was getting over emotional about someone or something that clearly wasn’t worth my time, you always put things into persepective and gave me the cold hard truth even if I didn’t want to hear it.

15. And most of all, thank you for being the first and best friend I have ever made at UNH
