15 Reasons to be Jealous of Your Siblings at Home

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNH chapter.

Our four college years are undoubtedly some of the best years of our lives. We have a new sense of freedom and adulthood that we never had when we lived at home. There are so many poisitive benefits of living on our own, but we also have a lot of new challenges we have to face. I sometimes find myself jealous of my two younger siblings, still living at home, for not having to face some of these challenges.

For example:

1.) The luxury of a bed that isn’t the same length and width of you. Those twin beds just don’t compare.

2.) On that note, their rooms are just bigger all around. Maybe the shape of the room isn’t just a small box like you’re living in.

3.) Laundry. Let’s face it, your mom still did your laundry for you at home.

4.) Home-cooked meals. Your siblings don’t know the pain of a Sunday night at the dining hall with no food left.

5) They also have access to a BIG stocked fridge at all times. Your mini fridge full of beer isn’t quite the same.

6.) Their cars are right their in the driveway/garage waiting for them. Not a long walk/ bus ride to the other side of campus.

7.) Your pets probably start to like them better since you’re never around. This might be the saddest one.

8.) They’re close to all your favorite restaurants. As nice as Pita Pit can be, it’s no hometown steakhouse.

9.) And you’re favorite malls/ stores. The Walmart near campus doesn’t seem to cut it.

10.) Hugs from mom when you’re sad. This one hurts.

11.) And life talks with dad when you’re feeling sophistaced. Always the best talks.

12.) They have someone to take car of them when they’re sick. Health services doesn’t give out soup and gingerale.

13.) No shower shoes. This is everything.

14.) Easy access to your parents bank account. Come on, everyone was thinking it.

15.) To be honest, they just don’t have to deal with the responsibilities we have to deal with. For a few years that is, until they go to college and are the ones all alone.
