During this time of social distancing, it’s difficult not to feel sad, and being trapped in the house all day can cause us to feel lonely and bored. For many of us, we are missing events that we had been looking forward to. Important milestones in our lives are being postponed or canceled. We miss being at school with our friends. Graduations, internships, study abroad programs and so much more have been canceled, and money is tight. This is a tough time for everyone.  Everyday I am reminded of all the things that I wish I could be doing if I was able to go outside. It can be hard to maintain a positive outlook, so, I decided to think of the 12 things that I am going to do as soon as quarantine is over, to give myself something to look forward to.

  1. Go to Connecticut to see my boyfriend

  2. Go to Chili’s with my best friend and order the Chips and Queso.

  3. Get a Coffee Awful Awful, the best milkshake in the world (It’s a Rhode Island thing)

  4. Go to my favorite beach and spend the whole day in the sun.

  5. Go to the mall and buy myself something- or a lot of somethings

  6. Go to my favorite restaurant and order the biggest meal on the menu.

  7. Go to the gym because working out at home just isn’t cutting it.

  8. Take a nice long walk around Target and probably spend way more money than I should.

  9. Get my nails done. I’ve already got the color picked out.

  10. Go on a road trip. I’ve had a lot of time to find a good Airbnb.

  11. (Hopefully) do the internship that I am applying for.

  12. Work regular hours at my job again.

Thinking about all of these things gives me hope for when this is all over, and it is what allows me to wake up everyday optimistic, despite how exhausted the quarantine has made me feel. While the things on this list will probably not apply to everyone, I do encourage you to make your own list. It is so easy to curl up in a ball everyday and be sad about the world right now, but this is a great time to take care of ourselves, and to remind ourselves that there will be better days, even if they aren’t soon.
