The Struggles of Being the High Maintenance Friend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCW chapter.

In every group, there is one friend who is slightly dramatic, sassy, and will keep you waiting 30 minutes because they had to finish their hair and makeup. I took one for the team and yes I am the high maintenance friend out of my group. The term “High Maintenance” has such a bad rep and why should it? Don’t apologize for being the way you are. Being high maintenance is not a bad thing, you just have high standards and expectations… like how is that a crime?! But while us drama queens of the group are embracing it, we have to deal with the constant struggles. Here are a few examples…

1. You take soooo long to get ready and you really do not know why.

There is a saying that states “you can’t rush art” so that is my reasoning as to why it takes me forever.

2. You can’t leave the house without makeup and your hair done.

When you decide to go bare for the day, people ask you if you are sick.

3. You are always wearing lipstick no matter what; which can be a pain when drinking or eating.

4. You have been called bougie on the daily.

Again, is that suppose to offend me?

5. You’re kind of a huge drama queen.

Sorry not sorry just practicing for when I become an actress.

6. You think you’re a perfectionist.

You want the best and to be the best.

7. You can be a little bitchy at times.

There is nothing wrong with being a little bitchy… embrace it ladies.

8. You are always in the color pink.

You’re also mad about how everyone is obsessed with millennial pink but you’ve been rocking pink since you were a child.
