On April 28, one of UNCW’s extraordinarily talented acapella groups hosted their Spring concert. The Seahawkappellas left the crowd floored by their incredible voices, mash-ups, and solo performances. The show began with a hilarious video which allowed the audience to gain insight into who the Seahawkappellas are, both as students and as musicians. Personalities shined through, and the laughter consumed the room. It became obvious that each singer brought character to the group.

“Michael Jackson Melody,” a song arranged by Kurt Schneider and performed by the 7 other members, was the opening tune. A sense of nostalgia was infused throughout the room as one of the most well-known pop performers was honored. The following 11 songs consisted of various genres such as indie, rhythm and blues, and ballad. Nonetheless, it is safe to say that the performance appealed to all types of music tastes and interests.

While the audience responded well to each song, it was undeniable that soloist Austin Jones took the crowd by storm in the mash-up of “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King and “Budapest” by George Ezra. As he performed, the Seahawkappellas behind him sang with pure happiness and enthusiasm; the group’s energy and excitement to be performing was obvious from the very first song.

Overall, the Seahawkappellas put on a wonderful spring show. If you’re looking to channel your inner Pitch Perfect, you can check out the High Seas concert Friday, April 29th and the Sea Bell’s performance the next day.
