A few weeks ago, corporate sent us a ton of Rimmel makeup. I am by no means a makeup guru, but here are my thoughts about some of the eye products they sent compared to the makeup I normally use!

Mascara: Rimmel vs. CoverGirl

I am among the few girls with naturally long eyelashes, but I still like to use mascara to add an extra oomph to my eyes.

Corporate sent us Rimmel Volume Flash Scandaleyes Mascara in color 003 extreme black. It comes packaged in a bright orange tube and is easily purchasable at Ulta Beauty for $6.99. I, however, use CoverGirl SuperSizer Waterproof Hydrofuge mascara. It comes in a blue tube and is the same price at $6.99.

The main difference between the two products is the brush. Rimmel’s Scandaleyes has a rounded brush which seems better for applying mascara. CoverGirl’s brush isn’t as rounded, but it gets the job done.

After using both products, I found that Rimmel’s mascara wasn’t as clumpy as CoverGirl’s and was the easiest to remove. However, CoverGirl’s mascara was more noticeable on my already long lashes. This may be because the brush collects more product than Rimmel’s brush.

Overall, both products accomplish what they need to. Since they’re the same price, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend one over the other. It all depends on the kind of coverage you’re looking for. For more dramatic coverage, stick to CoverGirl. For simpler, cleaner, and less noticeable coverage, Rimmel is the go-to.

Eyeliner: Rimmel vs. L’Oreal

I won’t even deny that eyeliner is a hit or miss process when I do my makeup in the morning. I’ve found that using eyeliner on my waterline is a bit too dramatic for my eyes, so I normally stick to the cat eye look.

Corporate sent us the Waterproof Eyeliner in the Rimmel Scandaleyes Collection in color 001 black (only $2.29 at Ulta). It’s a pencil eyeliner as opposed to liquid. I’ve personally used L’Oreal’s Infallible Super Slim Liquid Eyeliner for months now ($9.41 at Ulta). I thought the cat eye look on the upper lid was impossible with a pencil eyeliner.

To my surprise, Rimmel’s pencil eyeliner worked really well for my cat eye. It took a lot of patience and a steady hand, but it looked nicer than my eyeliner usually does with L’Oreal’s brand. The best part of Rimmel’s product was how long it stayed on my eye. My L’Oreal liquid eyeliner is usually smudged or completely gone by the end of the day, but Rimmel’s was still holding strong by the time I took it off before bed.

Out of the two, I recommend Rimmel’s Scandaleyes eyeliner. The price difference between the two is dramatic, so if you need a cheaper product that works well, Rimmel is definitely the best option here. My only disclaimer is that it will most likely take a few tries to get your eyeliner perfect with Rimmel’s, especially if eyeliner is not your thing. I find that liquid eyeliners are best for nice, even lines and good for beginners (like myself) since the pens are a lot easier to control. This ease does come with a hefty price, but either way, the decision is yours to make. Some people will always prefer liquid over pencil (or vice versa), but I highly suggest testing out a few different brands to confirm your preferences.
