Mansha Kakar, Campus Cutie

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCW chapter.

Name: Mansha Kakar

Year: Sophomore

Hometown: Wayne, New Jersey

Major: Psychology

Relationship Status: In a (really) long distance relationship!

Mansha is an extremely quirky girl from New Jersey. Her friends describe her as awesome, lively, “bae,” and the bees-knees. She brightens every place that she enters, so be sure to say hello to this ball of sunshine if you spot her on campus! Read on to find out more about this cutie!

HC: If you could meet with one person, dead or alive, real or imaginary, who would it be?

MK: Mindy Kaling, hands down. She’s such a strong personality in the TV industry right now, from having written, directed, produced and now starred in her own show — she’s absolutely brilliant. And it doesn’t hurt that people tell me I resemble her a bit.

HC: Hobbies?

MK: I love, love, love drawing. Pouring myself onto ink and ink onto paper is my favorite way to spend time, and the fact that I’ve made some decent money off of it is nice, too. I also really love reading, writing and finding new music to listen to!

HC: Are you involved on campus?

MK:I try to be! I’m a part of the Democrats Club, and I’m getting more involved with the International Student Organization, Atlantis, as well as writing opinion pieces for the Seahawk Student Newspaper.

HC: Favorite quote?

MK: “Do not mistake yourself for a garden or a muse or a promise or a victim or a snack. You are a woman, skin and bones, veins and nerves, hair and sweat. You are not made of metaphors, not apologies, not excuses.” – Sarah Kay

HC: What’s your favorite thing about being a UNCW student?

MK: Honestly, how much enthusiasm runs through everyone here. It’s hard to step outside and feel down, even if it’s dark and gloomy, because everybody is just so excited about everything. It’s contagious and I love it.

HC: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

MK: I really want to go to Spain! The culture, the language, the scenery — it all just resonates with me and I really want to experience it first hand. Or Australia. Or Japan. I also really want to go to Greece, France, Italy…really anywhere, honestly. I want to see as many places as I can.

HC: What’s been your most awkward moment at UNCW so far?

MK: A couple of weeks ago, two of my roommates and I were just hanging out in our living room when our RA knocked on the door. This was only the second time I had ever spoken to him, but just before he had come to our door, I was reading about how Chuck E. Cheese’s actual name is Charles Entertainment Cheese, and so as he finished up a conversation with all of us and was about to leave, I told him that fact and sounded really torn up over it (because I was). The next time I saw him, he brought that up and joked around about it, but I was happy to know I didn’t scare him away or anything. But, a few days later, I saw him again and he said, “Mansha! I was just talking about you to my friend over here!” and it was about the Chuck E. Cheese thing. It’s just such a weird thing to be remembered for.
