Kick it with Phi Mu

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCW chapter.

Looking for a fun way to raise money for a great cause? The sisters of Phi Mu at UNCW will be hosting their Third Annual “Kick it with Phi Mu” kickball tournament the weekend of October 3rd and 4th.  This money will be donated to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which is an awesome, non-profit organization that was founded on two goals: Helping as many children possible by raising funds for children’s hospitals and keeping the funds in the community in which they were raised to help local children!

“Kick It With Phi Mu” is a two-day long kickball tournament organized by the Gamma Kappa Chapter.  Last year, Greek life, clubs, teams, and community members all came out to help the cause last year, and this year is supposed to be their biggest tournament yet.  Not only do you get to participate in fun, friendly competition with your friends, but there’s also going to be raffles with fun goodies all donated from local Wilmington businesses, along with fun games and t-shirt sales!

We interviewed one of the sisters of Phi Mu, junior, Maddie Joynt about her experience with Kick It:

HC: This is going to be your third year participating in Kick it with Phi Mu. Can you tell us about your experience with the event, and why you’re so passionate about it?

MJ: We actually have multiple events throughout the year to raise money for our philanthropy, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, but I have to say this one is my favorite by far.  It’s so fun to see the community get together and have fun while supporting an amazing cause!  I’ve met so many big-hearted people through this event, and I’m honestly so excited to see what this year brings!

How to get involved: Become a sponsor by making a tax-deductible monetary donation or donate prizes to get raffled off during the tournament!

Over the past thirty years, Phi Mu sisters across the country have raised over eight million dollars to support their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.  Last year alone the girls were able to raise around $5,000 that got directly donated to Duke Children’s Hospital in Durham, North Carolina with help from all of you! Grab some friends and make a team, get your game face on, and get ready to Kick It with Phi Mu!

Online donations can be made and must be sent in by September 23rd, 2015. Visit Phi Mu’s Crowd Rise fundraiser page to make your contribution.
