We all have that moment when you are hanging out with your friend and then suddenly they make a comment that kind of makes you uncomfortable. It’s usually a comment about grabbing dinner alone or making intimate plans about getting to know you better. This kind of discomfort (for me personally) makes me panic because it is hard sometimes to see your friend in any other way and you don’t want to ruin the friendship. So here are some gentle and reasonable ways to put someone in the friendzone:

1. Set Boundaries.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell your good friend that you honestly do not see yourself in a relationship with them so sometimes you just have separate yourself from them for a little bit. For example, do not call them for your personal needs or to just spend one-on-one time with them because it might give them the idea that you feel the same way.

2. Don’t show loopholes.

To go with setting boundaries, don’t let them think that there is a chance. Show them the importance of their friendship or verbally tell them that you are not interested in a serious relationship of any kind.

3. Sit down and have an honest conversation.

If all else fails be honest and have a conversation with them because in the end that is all you can do. Also, college is a crazy stressful time so if they do not understand your need for space then they need to figure themselves out.

In the end, be kind to them since you guys are friends and you should understand that they might need some time to readjust. Also, in all honestly you do not owe them a reason to friendzone and they should respect that.
