HC: What is your favorite romantic comedy and why?

HD: My favorite romantic comedy would probably have to be “She’s the Man.” I just love how quirky and funny Amanda Bynes’ character is, and how just completely herself she is while not being herself. I guess I just love how the movie shows that being weird and different is okay, and that people will love you and support you no matter what.

HC: What are some of the organizations you are involved in on campus?

HD: I have been involved on-campus as an Orientation Leader for the past two summers. I also have been involved with Student Government, Campus Conduct Board, Academic Honor Board, am the current Vice President of Recognition for National Residence Hall Honorary, and an RA of Graham-Hewlett.

HC: What is your greatest aspiration in life? Where do you see yourself in five years time?

HD: My greatest aspiration in life is to reform the education system to be geared more towards true learning and less toward standardized testing and data. I truly believe that teachers should have more control over what they teach in their classrooms, and should be able to conduct more individualized forms of assessment to gauge student progress. By implementing a portfolio system of assessment, students who learn or demonstrate their learning in a different way could better display their knowledge. In five years I see myself teaching in a school, probably 1st or 2nd grade, either in North Carolina or teaching overseas for the military. Eventually though I want to be involved with the School Board, or potentially get a law degree and advocate for education change in NC.

HC: Who is your celebrity crush?

HD: I’m actually really horrible with knowing the names of actors and actresses. If I had say someone though, I am still really into Channing Tatum. I mean he has the jawline of a thousand warriors, and he is just an overall hunky man.

HC: What would be your ideal date?

HD: My ideal date would be getting dollar tacos at Islands, then driving down to the beach and getting ice cream at the stand across from Access 29 and walking on the beach. How can you do better than tacos at the place with the best spicy salsa, a good ice cream cone, a beautiful beach view with a hunk you’ve had your eye on???

HC: If you could date any fictional character, who would it be and why?

HD: I would most definitely date Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. First off, the man who plays him in the Keira Knightley version of that movie is a dreamboat. Then, I just think it is so sweet how devoted to Elizabeth he is. He realizes his faults, and does his best to rectify those faults so that he can deserve and earn her love. I love that in the movie, both characters challenge each other to overcome some of the worst parts of themselves, and to be better people. The best relationships are the ones where you are great alone, but your significant other pushes you and supports you becoming better.

HC: What dating advice do you have for underclassmen?

HD: Be honest about what you want, and know that you deserve it. I feel like sometimes I’ve been in situations where I have liked guys, and when the question of what I wanted in a relationship came up I either felt like in order to keep them I had to agree with them, that I didn’t want anything serious or just avoid answering. But then I ended up in long “talking” phases that never became anything serious, that made me really unhappy. Now I don’t apologize for being upfront and saying that I really want something serious. Sometimes when a guy asks and they’re looking for something casual, yes I lose a guy I thought I liked, but honestly if we weren’t looking for the same thing then it wasn’t meant to be. Also date yourself. When you feel your best and you take care of yourself, then the best comes to you.
