I have always loved spending the holidays with my family; but I will say, being in college has made me appreciate time spent with loved ones even more, as well as truly understanding what it means to be thankful. Going home for the holidays is something we college students should all cherish because before we know it, it’s bye bye home cooked meals and hello cereal for dinner.

1. The countdown until you break free from your jail cell (dorm room) and get to see your family begins; and of course, your excitement to see your favorite little fur children builds.

2. You drive off campus, blast J. Beib’s new album (#blessed), and think of all that’s happened since you’ve last been home.

But really, how much has changed?

3. Immediately, you realize the insane amount of questions you’re going to be asked. No, I haven’t decided on my major. No, I don’t have more than $20 in my bank account. Yes, I am still very, very single, mom. That covers it, right?

4. You realize you and your BFF from the first floor will be apart for a whole week. So naturally, you text her explaining how much you already miss her. How are we going to survive a whole month away from each other for Christmas break?

5. Speaking of friends, do I really need to see anyone from high school? I have a lot of Netflix and well, Netflix to catch up on. I’ll be home in two weeks; I’ll see everyone then.

6. Finally, the “Welcome To” sign for your hometown approaches, and you can’t help but admit how much you truly appreciate this little place you know like the back of your hand.

7. You turn into your neighborhood, pull into your driveway, and can’t help but smile as you see your dog waiting for you in the same spot she always did when you lived at home.

8. Putting the car in park, you basically fall out of your seat as the long awaited hugs with your family are finally here. Reunited and it feels so good.
