Her Campus UNCW, if you didn’t know already, is a great way to keep up with things happening on UNCW’s campus. This week we wanted to feature our Co- Correspondents at UNCW Her Campus, Francesca Giordano and Hannah Rodgers. Here are a few questions below to get to know them and their position.

HC: How did you get involved with Her Campus?

FG: Originally, one of the girls who was formally in the organization came to speak to the class when I was a sophomore and it caught my attention. Then, I found out one of my friends was in it so I was more inclined to join! Ever since, I’ve been a pretty active member.

HR: I got involved with Her Campus because I knew I wanted to write for a magazine or newspaper. I love to write and Her Campus gave me the opportunity to write on a weekly basis. Her Campus also gave me the chance to meet a bunch of students who are very similar to me. Joining Her Campus was honestly one the best decisions I made in college.

HC: What made you want to run as Co-Correspondent?

FG: After attending Her Conference during the summer going into junior year, I knew I wanted to make this my career. I also got really excited about the things I could do for our organization and started thinking of ideas of how I could better it!

HR: Kaitlyn, our previous Campus Correspondent, thought it would be a good idea to have two leaders because she knew how big of a responsibility it is for one person. Since both Francesca and I are together, it has made the transition much easier. We work really well together and I think we both have different qualities that we bring to the organization.

HC: What are some of your duties as Co-Correspondent of Her Campus?

FG: Essentially, we are the Editor-In-Chief for Her Campus UNCW. We run weekly meetings, organize content, make sure we meet weekly requirements with nationals, and organize giveaways and events. So, pretty much a little bit of everything!

HR: Like Francesca said we do a little bit of everything. However, we do have smaller committees that help us with all of our tasks. The committee heads help make our job so much easier and without them, our organization would not run as smoothly.

HC: How do you balance this commitment with other school work?

FG: Sometimes, it can be tough but I try to do everything I can in advance so I have time for random things that might come up towards the end of the week. It’s something that I truly enjoy doing, so I always have the time for it.

HR: Between Her Campus, my two other jobs, my internship, and school life, it can get pretty hectic. However, I find a way to manage it all. Her Campus is really important to me, so it is usually one of my first priorities. Having Francesca and our committees really helps with this balance.

HC: Her Campus goes to a conference every year to New York. How has that helped you in this position?

FG: Her Conference is the reason why I am so involved in Her Campus. It has inspired me to gain a lot of experience in the editorial field. This has helped me teach our members various skills that I have learned at the conference as well as what learned during my internships.

HR: I went to Her Conference this past summer and it has really helped me with this position. I got the opportunity to meet other women just like me, which was awesome. I also was lucky enough to meet and talk to professionals in the journalism field. They shared their experiences which helped me realize that the struggle to the top is worth it in the end.

Fran and I also had the opportunity to attend a workshop for Campus Correspondents. This was super helpful because we got to talk to other students that were in charge of their chapters at all different schools. We shared stories and tips on how to improve and expand our organization.

HC: Do you have any upcoming events on campus?

FG: Yes! We were actually chosen to be 1 of 2 campuses throughout the U.S. to hold a panel for a national campaign called #ActuallySheCan that will be giving tips from local businesswomen, photo ops, and much more. So, come check it out on September 23rd at 5:30 pm in Burney Ballroom A! It is going to be a great networking opportunity and a lot of fun!
