Meet Tri Sigma’s treasurer, Courtney Beal!  She enjoys listening to music, spending time with her sorority sisters and doing philanthropy work. Originally born in Charlotte, NC, Courtney is a big Carolina Panthers fan. Read on to learn why she joined Tri Sigma, how it has impacted her and her advice to other girls who are interested in joining a sorority.

HC: Why did you join Tri Sigma?

I transferred to UNCW my sophomore year so I decided I wanted to get more involved on campus and make lifelong friends. I found out about Tri Sigma through the annual involvement carnival during my second semester. I attended a meet and greek event and Tri Sigma just stood out.

HC: How long have you been the treasurer and what are your responsibilities?

It will be a year in Decemebr that I have been the Tri Sigma treasurer. As the treasurer, my responsibilities are budgeting, collecting dues and making sure bills are paid on time. I also work with other officers to make decisions in regards to event planning and making sure they run smoothly.

HC: What is your favorite part about being in Tri Sigma?

My favorite part about being a part of Tri Sigma is the sisterhood with all the girls in the sorority and knowing that over a hundred girls are always going to be there for me no matter what.

Dash in the Dark is also my favorite philanthropy event. Teams made up of other sororities, fraternities and people from the community come together to take on obstacle courses to raise money for Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundations, Robbie Page Play Atrium in Chapel Hill.

HC: How has joining Tri Sigma impacted you?

Being a part of Tri Sigma has impacted me because it has allowed me to take a leadership position that I would have never taken before. It has also helped me focus on doing well in school, but also still being able to enjoy the college experience.

HC: Any advice to students who are thinking about joining a sorority?

Don’t think about the stereotypes that movies portray or ones that you have heard. I would encourage them to approach it with an open mind about how the experiences and the organization can impact you. If you are even slightly interested, there is no harm in trying it out. Go Panhellenic!
