Connor Buss, Campus Cutie

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCW chapter.

Name: Connor Buss

Age: “21 years young baby!”

Year: Senior

Major: Double major in Communication Studies and Film Studies

Hometown: Severna Park, Maryland (near Annapolis)

Relationship Status: Taken

Connor Buss, an aficionado of the film industry, lives on Wrightsville Beach where he spends the majority of his time surfing, wakeboarding, boating and fishing.  He loves seafood and all things related to the North Carolina Coast.  Connor’s heart for service is evident through his work in 3 different states with Habitat for Humanity, and local work with the Victory Vines charity.

HC: Where do you work?

CB: I am a Student Brand Manager for Red Bull. It’s a rad job.  I used to work on the camera crew for the UNCW Athletic games.

HC: Tell us about your volunteer work.

CB: I’ve gone to Ohio, Iredell County in N.C., and also to Winston Salem, and to South Carolina on trips with Habitat for Humanity. The work is very rewarding, and it’s great because the families receiving the homes are working along with the volunteers.

HC: Would you describe your relationship, would you say it is long-distance?

CB: I would call it a mid-distance relationship, my girlfriend is in North Carolina.

HC: What is/are your favorite sports team(s)?

CB: I’m a huge Ravens fan.

HC: Tell us about your involvement in the wakeboarding club team at UNCW.

CB:  Well, I’m the president of the team. Last April, I placed first in my division at regionals.

HC: What’s your favorite TV show?

CB: I’ll watch Dexter when my roommate is watching, but my favorite show is Eastbound & Down.  It was actually filmed here in Wilmington.

HC: Tell me about your involvement with film.

CB: I’ve interned at Screen Gem Studios.  One of my current projects is a documentary about economics and film legislation and its impact on the region.

HC: Favorite band(s)?

CB: Pig Destroyer! (They’re a Metal band)

HC: Where are your favorite places to be in Wilmington?

CB: My car, and Jerry Allen’s Sports Bar on Wrightsville Beach.  My friends and I have a habit of saying “He went to Jerry’s!” like they do in the Jared jewelry store commercials.  My ultimate favorite restaurant is Tower 7 across from WINGS on Wrightsville Beach.  But you can’t go there now, it’s closed for renovations.

HC: Do you have a celebrity crush? It can be a bromance…

CB: (pauses) I’d have to say I’m a big fan of Bradley Cooper.

HC: You’re going to be stranded on a desert island. What three things would you want to bring?

CB:  A giant barrel of Simply Orange (no pulp, Vitamin C and protein added), my guitar and my worn-in, year-and-a-half old vans. I hate new shoes.
