This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCW chapter.

Kristin Merritt is a Junior at UNCW studying computer science. She takes pride in her style and loves to try new things any chance she gets. Her love for flowers and all things comfy and cute has definitely been translated into her wardrobe. As her style has changed over the years, this is what she has to say about it:

HC: How would you describe your style?

KM: I would describe my style as comfy and vintage. I’m always grabbing something flow-y, abstract, floral, or just cool looking (floral has always been a huge favorite, though). I’m not afraid to try new trends, either! If I like it, I’ll wear it! I live near the beach, so I think the beach-y looks play well into my style.

HC: Do you get inspiration from anything?

KM: I mostly get my inspiration from old films. I love watching Full House or old movies like Dirty Dancing because I get to see the clothes they wore!

HC: What is your “go-to” clothing item?

KM: My go-to clothing item in cold weather would definitely be a cardigan or jean jacket. In the warmer weather, it is often high-wasted shorts.

HC: Where is your favorite place to shop?

KM: I mostly shop at thrift stores, Forever 21, Pacsun, and Tjmaxx. For basic pieces, I love to shop at Old Navy. My favorite thrift stores are ones by the small beaches near Topsail Island or Southport.

As you can see, Kristin has a real passion for fashion and expresses herself through the outfits she wears on a daily basis. Her openness to try new trends has also helped develop her personal style as it is today. She hopes to keep exploring different local thrift shops and see what new gems she can find!

Keep shopping!

Natalia Pavel is currently Senior at UNCW studying communication and digital art, hoping to pursue a career in marketing or graphic design. Her passions include graphic design and writing. She's always starting new projects, and gets inspiration from the beach where she resides during the school year. You will most likely find her with her computer working on Adobe InDesign at a local coffee shop.
