5 Wilmington Coffee Shops You Should Definitely Visit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCW chapter.

If you know me, you know that I love a good coffee shop. So, it’s not surprising that one of my favorite activities is discovering coffee shops around town. I’ll pretty much do anything to feed my caffeine addiction, and sometimes I just need to get off campus and find a new and refreshing space to get some work done. Wilmington is home to a plethora of quaint coffee shops (with excellent coffee, obviously), each with its own unique vibe. So, I’ve picked my five favorite spots for coffee around Wilmington so you, too, can enjoy them (you can thank me later)!

Bitty and Beau’s

Bitty and Beau’s is one of the coolest places in Wilmington. The menu is great, but the best thing about this coffee shop is that they employ people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Although it was founded just three years ago, Bitty and Beau’s is now a beloved place where everyone is welcome. Bonus: there’s a ton of space (both inside and outside), so no need to worry about finding a seat!

Grinders Caffé

Although I just started going to Grinders this year, it is definitely one of my favorites. The menu has a ton of variety, the atmosphere is trendy and the employees are extremely nice. Bonus: they also have live music by local musicians from time to time!

Old North Coffee

You just can’t help but feel relaxed when you walk into Old North Coffee. The atmosphere is cozy and the shop is designed to make you feel at home with comfy chairs and plenty of space to chill. Bonus: They have a filtration system to help combat water pollutants, so you know you’re getting good quality items!

Port City Java

Port City Java (PCJ) is the OG Wilmington coffee shop. They not only have a ton of options for coffee drinkers, but they also have smoothies and a good amount of food if you need something to soak up all that caffeine (trust me, you do). Bonus: PCJ has several locations around town, including one downtown and one right by the UNCW campus!

SUNdays

It’s on the beach—do I have to say anything else? SUNdays is a favorite spot of many and has that classic ~beachy vibe~. This coffee shop is a great place to get some homework done or just chill with friends. Bonus: they also serve breakfast and alcoholic beverages!

Elena is a friendly senior at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She is currently majoring in Communication Studies with a minor in Spanish. When she's not in class or napping, you can catch Elena working out at the gym, binge-watching medical dramas, or indulging her caffeine addiction at a local coffee shop.
