5 Reasons Brooklyn Nine-Nine is the Greatest Show Ever Made

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCW chapter.

If you’ve never seen Brooklyn Nine-Nine, you are missing out on some of the most quality content ever put on tv ever…ever (that might be an exaggeration, but still.). With stars like Terry Crews and Andy Samberg, the show really shines a hilarious light on cop shows. Here are 5 reasons Brooklyn Nine-Nine may be the best show ever made.

The Comedy

From fart jokes to sex jokes, this show has got it all. Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s driving force is its comedy and the satirical view on typical cops shows. The show also relies heavily on callbacks to jokes made in previous seasons. My favorite joke is from Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) saying “title of your sex tape,” an interesting take on the classic “that’s what she said.”

The Representation

Looking for a show where you can find yourself? Brooklyn Nine-Nine is the one for you. Four out of the nine main characters are people of color, and two of the four are a part of the LBGTQA+ community. The show dedicates full episodes to the struggles many minorities face, hitting the nail on the head of representation and diversity.

Gina

The myth, the legend, the woman of the year. Gina Linetti (Chelsea Peretti) is one of the best characters on the show. She’s delivered some of the best one-liners on the show, got hit by a bus and walked it off like a champ, and is all around a bad bitch.

The Delivery

Comedy in shows only works when it’s done at the right time, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a perfect example. This show knows the time and place for a joke and for some serious conversation. It also does a great job at taking a somewhat emotional moment and having it end in an amazing one-liner.

The Family

The show puts a large emphasis on a family being one that sticks with you, regardless of biological relationship. From Jake finding a father figure in Captian Holt (Andre Braugher) to Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) coming to terms with his son’s biological father, Brooklyn Nine-Nine does a great job at highlighting the concept of “family isn’t always blood.”

Bonus: Gina Linetti

So, in conclusion, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of the greatest shows ever created…ever.

Hi! I'm Akire' I'm 18, a freshmen and a marine biology major (for now) and I hate using capital letters. You can find me watching either K-pop videos, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, or Teen Wolf and munching on some cheez-its.
