5 Feel-Good TED Talks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCW chapter.

I cannot pinpoint where my obsession for TED talks came from nor can I explain the feeling I get when I get to watch someone talk about something they love. Yet, I know this. I absolutely love TED talks! Some people say it’s nerdy but I feel like some have great messages or just make you laugh so I decided to share some with you:

1) We Should all be Feminist | Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

First, let me start off by saying that Adichie is an amazing novelist and one of my favorite speakers. She holds herself with grace and her words are simple, yet powerful. This TED talk on feminism is my favorite because she talks about what it is like to be a woman in different countries, how both men and women perceive each other, and how we change this sexism with one action at a time. Also, this talk is used in Beyoncé’s Flawless so get in formation ladies!

2) Rainn Wilson | Ideas worth dating

I love The Office so seeing the actor (Rainn Wilson) that plays Dwight Schrute on the cover of a TED talk I knew I couldn’t miss it. This is just a short video of Wilson watching different TED talks and trying to find his “idea mate” to share the rest of his life with.

3) Ashley Graham | Plus size? More Like My size

Ashley Graham is someone I look up to for inspiration or sometimes to just say “Daaaaamn, she looks good”. Her talk is filled with empowerment and the importance of taking control of your body especially in a society that is controlled by labels.

4) Danielle Feinberg | The magic ingredient that brings Pixar movies to life

Disney/Pixar has created some of my favorite movies that I still hold close in my heart today. Feinburg’s talk illustrates the behind the scenes of how our beloved films were made and where the love and passion of it derives from. Also, she shuts down the idea that art and science isn’t a good mixture especially in a society where art is seen as impractical and women in science is unnecessary.

5) Iskra Lawrence | Ending the pursuit of perfection

Along with being the face and spokesperson of Aerie, she is also an activist for identifying and treating eating disorders around the nation. Lawrence sheds light on how loving yourself and body positivity can be one of the most important things to have in your life.
