With the start of a new semester, we all get a chance to have a “blank slate.” Brand new classes, brand new schedule, and different teachers giving us something new and exciting to look forward to. Some of us anticipate fixing past mistakes made in our last semester and try to make the new semester a better one.
Here are a few tips to start your semester on a good note:
1. Don’t start skipping classes right off the bat.
Although the first few weeks can seem somewhat unproductive, (I mean how many times can we go over syllabus… I think we get the point), you don’t want to set the precedent of skipping classes.
2. Write down all-important dates.
Write everything down, whether it’s on a paper calendar, iPhone, or anything that will give you a reminder of when various tests, homework, or readings are due.
3. Start on your reading ahead of time.
I know we hear it all the time, and believe me I don’t do this a lot of times either, but it really does help you in the long run. You’ll be aware of the material ahead of time so when the professor goes over the material during the actual lecture, you’ll already be familiar with the material.
4. Start good habits from day one.
The first few weeks of school are known to be easier and usually doesn’t require much work. Don’t let this breezy time make you fall into bad habits that you’ll carry on throughout the semester! Make sure you are creating good habits that will in turn make your semester easy!
Having the right mindset from the start can really aid in the way your whole semester is set. Putting the right effort from the beginning will reward you in the end, allowing you to feel organized and up to date and (hopefully!) feel less stressed.
So, make this year the best one yet!
