Underrated Artists You Should Be Listening To

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCG chapter.

With new artists showing up all around us on social media, if you aren’t on the lookout for new music then you will miss so much. These days you don’t need a record label to sign you in order for you to become popular. And like everyone on this list they rose to fame on their own with the help of social media. Below I’ve listed 5 of my new favorite underrated artists that you should check out!

  1. Boy Pablo

Boy Pablo shot to fame after their video for their song “Everytime” went viral, mainly due to the chill vibes and awkwardness of their scrunching faces. The band hails from Norway and makes mostly indie music. Although they are in a popular genre, the band wants to makes feel good music that is sunny and peaceful like their country of Norway.

  2. Raveena

NY based artist Raveena is a quiet yet soulful R&B artist. Her music is peaceful and this is due to the fact that Raveena always says that the story she wants to tell is one of healing. She is also an advocate for women of color in artistic workplaces, so that through her they will be able to have creative outlets.

  3. London Grammar

London Grammar is a British Indie Pop Trio. If I could dream up a perfect soundtrack of calming music, they would be on the list. The group’s music is mellow, relaxing and sweet due to the lead singer Hannah Reid, whose music inspirations are Michael Jackson and Florence Welch.

  4. Clairo

Known as the “Bedroom Pop Queen,” Clairo rose to fame after her music video for “Pretty Girl” went viral. To date, the video has 22 million views. Clairo makes what is known as “Bedroom Pop” music written and produced from her college dorm. She’s got popstar vocals, but she gives them over to songs that are soothing.

  5. Alina Baraz

Alina Baraz rose to popularity after her debut album “Urban Flora.” The album became so popular because she created and produced the album with Galimatius entirely over facebook. The two did not meet until 2 years later. Baraz sings R&B-Pop and has collaborated behind the scenes with many artists such as Khalid.

I hope this provides you with some music inspiration and encourages you to find new, lesser-known artists that speak to you!
