MFA Dance Thesis Concert

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCG chapter.

Are you looking for a fun, interesting and thought-provoking event on campus? Well, look no further than the Dance Department! Every semester the department puts on multiple performances with a wide range of dance pieces and themes. The upcoming performance is for two MFA students, Pengying “Sophie” Sui and Taylor King, who will both be graduating with MFA’s in dance. The concert is shared between the two choreographers the first half being Sui’s, titled “Where Pathways Meet”. Throughout her concert she will be exploring the relationships between people as they go on their journeies. The second half of the concert is King’s, titled “A Place Called Me”. Throughout her portion of the concert she explores the self through the use of chakra’s, with each dancer embodying one of the seven chakras; Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third-Eye, and Crown. The event will be entertaining and allow the audience time to reflect and meditate on what they are witnessing.

Now you may be asking, what are chakras? Chakras are found in Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism and are known as points of energy in the body. You might have heard the statement “Make sure all your chakras are aligned” or something of the sort. Basically, that means is that the “wheels” of energy in your body are in harmony. Each chakra represents different parts of your body and well-being, and throughout “A Place Called Me” each chakra is explored and represented.

So if you’re looking to see a visual explanation of chakras and an exploration with different pathways meet, you should come visit the Coleman Building March 24th and 25th at 8 pm. Tickets are only $6 for students, and $12 for adults. If you can’t make this performance, be sure to check out the Spring Concert and BFA Thesis concerts later on in the semester! Come out to support the arts and your fellow students!
