Back in Style: Trends for Fall 2018

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCG chapter.

The start of a new school year brings with it many new anxieties: worrying about classes, padding your resume with extracurricular activities and maintaining some semblance of a social life. With all of the stress that comes with college, you shouldn’t have to worry about what you’re going to wear. Here are some new trends for Fall 2018 to help you start the school year with confidence.

1.Oversized Statement Coats

Layering parkas and lightweight jackets in bright hues will help you stand out in the crowd and protect you from the cool fall air. Work some eye-catching outerwear into your professional attire as well, with blazers and button-downs to make head turns.

2.Fall Florals

While some think that florals are just for spring, fall bouquets are making an appearance this year to bring an air of femininity to any outfit. Whether you rock delicate floral details or an all-over garden, your confidence is sure to “bloom” this fall.

3.80s Leather

Vintage leather – or pleather – statement pieces can dress up any basic look and bring a sleek modern feel this fall. Simple leather jackets pair well with any outfit and can transition easily from day to night looks. Try this trend with bold shoulders to bring even more power to your outfit.

4.Iridescent Apparel

Futuristic fringe dresses and hologram coats are taking over this season to help you shine in and out of the classroom. These shimmering statement pieces easily make the transition from day to night, showcasing your unique style both on campus and out on the town.

5.Classic Plaid

Although plaid has been around for a while and usually shows up in oversized fall flannels, the popular print is being refreshed this season and shown in many new ways. Instead of throwing on another well-worn flannel or miniskirt, try incorporating plaid into your more professional looks with a blazer or sleek jumpsuit. If you’re feeling especially adventurous, you can try mixing plaids of different sizes and colors to create an eye-catching outfit that still looks put together.

This fall is all about bringing old styles back around and standing out in the crowd. Although some things remain uncertain, like what your major will be or whether or not you’ll actually be on time to your 8:00 a.m. class, you never have to worry about what you’re going to wear to make this school year the best one yet.
