Action Packed. Amazing Visuals. Breathtaking Cast. Compelling Story.
All of these statements are some of the things that you may hear about the newly premiered Blockbuster, Black Panther. A movie, that according to Forbes, is reportedly in the top four movies, with the other movies being in the Star Wars family, for most advanced ticket sales, that have people lining up at the theater doors hours early. According to the Washington Post, Black Panther is reportedly in the running to break the record of 166 million in revenue for a Friday- Sunday viewing period, putting it in top ten overall openings! With so much craziness going on around the premiere of this move, many may ask, what makes the movie so special?
Could it be the all-star cast?
Many movie-fanatics like myself will find that the leads of this movie are great breakout stars of our current time. We have Chadwick Boseman, who first appeared as the Black Panther in the amazing Captain America: Civil War film in 2016. Outside of that, Boseman is known for his portrayal of the famous Jackie Robinson in the biopic, 42. Adding to this heavy-weight cast, we have the leading lady Lupita Nyong’o, who had an amazing career push by starring in the movie, 12 Years A Slave. Another amazing edition, but definitely not the end of this all-star cast, is Michael B. Jordan. Jordan has been in many great films as his career has been on the up, but his latest revolutionary film, was by joining the Rocky films’ family by staring as Adonis Creed in Creed.
As I stated, there are more actors and actresses that make up this breathtaking film, but maybe that is not all that makes this film so magical.
Could it be the diversity?
It might be obvious from the actors and actresses I named, but Black Panther has one of the most interesting casts and settings from the Marvel Franchise. At this moment, Black Panther is being seen as a one of a kind film of the Marvel Franchise because of its cast that is made up of all African-American actors and actresses, and the heart of where the story takes place, Africa. To this date, as a decent fan of the Marvel films, this movie definitely stands out to me because of these facts. Many, including myself, are curious if the production of this film will have greater impact on Hollywood and how black films are produced in Hollywood. Or if Marvel will continue this revolution in its creativity, and carry on with the Black Panther spark and create more films of this story, like they did with Iron Man, Captain America, and the majority of the superheroes that make up The Avengers.
