20 Things to do Over Winter Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCG chapter.

Finally we are in the homestretch; it’s almost time for winter break! I know we’re all ready for this well-deserved month off. Although some of us might have to do some work over break to prep for next semester (me included), I wanted to offer some ideas for fun stuff to do to relax and recharge, even on a college student’s budget. Below are 20 activities to do over winter break to make the most your time off ranging from free activities to a few things you may want (read: need) to splurge on.

Free:

1. SLEEP – You have a month to catch up and finally get back on some semblance of a sleep schedule.

2. Catch up with family – You missed them, they missed you. Spend some time just chilling at home with them for a few days!

3. Hangout with hometown friends – Whether you’re still close with all of your high school friends or you have one best friend you never see because you’re both so busy, use this time to actually make and keep plans with them!

4. Enjoy home cooking – Honestly, this is one of the things I miss most when I’m away at school. As much as I try to cook for myself, it’s never as good as meals at home.

5. Read a book (for pleasure) – I always find it hard to make time to read for fun during the semester so a month long break is the perfect time.

6. Get organized – You actually have time to get organized. I’m not saying take the whole month, but you’ve got it if you need it. Order a planner or make a schedule. Even if you start small, it will make your life easier next semester.

7.  Watch some Netflix – Lose a few hours (of days) to your new favorite show, that’s what breaks are for.

8. Do some soul searching about the future – I don’t know about you all, but this is how I will probably be spending a lot of my time during this over break (Seniors, you understand).

9. Go for a walk – Really any exercise is good. I know some of you will say “but it’s cold”, and my response would be “we live in NC, it’ll probably be 60 degrees on Christmas”.

10. Take care of your mental health – It’s important!

Splurge a little:

11. Go shopping!! – It’s never a waste of time.

12. Go on a trip – Go to the beach, the mountains, the park 20 minutes from your house. Whatever works for your budget.

13. Get a Mani/pedi – Treat yourself!

14. Go to a game – My favorite is always a Hurricanes game.

15. See a movie – There’s always a lot a great movies coming out this time of year.

16. Go to a play.

17. Buy your books for next semester – It’s not a fun use of your money, but it will help you get ahead.

18. Go wine tasting (21 and over).

19. Go out to dinner at your favorite restaurant.

20. Do something adventurous – Horseback riding, skydiving, rock climbing, spelunking??

Whatever you decide to do with you break, I hope you have a great one! Take time to relax, but also do something fun!!
