As the weather gets warmer, I get more and more excited to be outdoors and to discover new parts of Kansas City. Despite living in Kansas City for almost four years, there are still so many activities to check off on my bucket list. I compiled a list of seven activities or ideas that I am looking forward to doing this spring or summer while enjoying the beautiful weather.

walking in parks

I love going on walks with friends or listening to a podcast, so I added my two favorite parks to visit. I go to Loose Park the most often since it is larger and closer to campus, but I also like to switch it up and go to Berkley Riverfront Park to take in the city views while being right on the water. An honorable mention for going on walks is the Trolley Trail connects UMKC to Brookside. Since this trail is so close to campus and very convenient, I enjoy walking to Brookside and back.

Visiting Museums

Near to campus is the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and The Ewing and Muriel Kauffman Memorial Garden. Both of these are stunning and within walking distance from each other  from UMKC’s Volker Campus. My Kansas City bucket list for these locations includes a walk through the museum, a picnic on the lawn of the museum and a stroll of the garden. I think it would also be really fun to bring a group of friends and paint canvases on the lawn of the Nelson as well.

Rooftop Bars

It is my first spring being 21 years old, and I am extremely excited for all the rooftop bars and restaurants in Kansas City as well as all the outdoor patio options. My friends and family have so many recommendations that I can’t wait to try out. Late last summer, I went to Percheron’s rooftop bar and the view was spectacular and the bar was aesthetic and great for pictures with friends.

Exploring the River Market

Another fun option is the River Market. This is so popular among residents and visitors of Kansas City and surprisingly, I have never been. I feel that this is a travesty since I have been here for four years so I will be rectifying this situation as soon as possible. I am looking forward to the flowers and coffee and anything else that I find exciting and special.

Seeing the Skyline at the National WWI Museum

I have gone to the National WWI Museum and Memorial several times as I consider it to have the best view of the skyline, Union Station and the Western Auto sign. It is always pretty at any hour of the day, but especially in the afternoon and when it is dark and the entire city is lit up.

The Kansas City Zoo

Another tried and true is the Kansas City Zoo. I always love visiting the zoo with my friends. It is always so exciting to me every time and I love the sky safari and the tram ride. I am looking forward to going sometime this summer.

Drive-In Theaters & Ziplines

The final activities on this list are two that I recently heard of and am so excited to experience. The first is Boulevard Drive In. I have had a drive-in movie on my bucket list since I was a child and I just found out that Kansas City has an outdoor theater where  you can watch from your car or from lawn chairs.I am so excited to finally experience this in the spring and summer. I also just discovered Go Ape Zipline and Adventure Park and had no idea there was one in Kansas City. I tried ziplining and a ropes course several years ago in South Dakota and absolutely loved it. I have been wanting to do it again and I am thrilled that Kansas City has this option.

I hope you found this list helpful in adding some fun things to do to your spring and summer plans. Whether it’s by yourself or with a group of friends, this list contains some great ideas for fun activities to do to enjoy the weather. Adventure awaits!
