On April 26th, Taylor Swift released her first single from her seventh upcoming album. Before its unveiling, the singer released stills of the music video across her social media platforms. The pastel hues were a drastic change from the dark and mystic theme from her Reputation era. As a long time fan, I was happy for the light-hearted theme that she decided to use for her upcoming album.

The music video begins with a snake, which is a reference from her previous album, slithering across the pastel cobblestone street. As the snake approaches the viewers, it suddenly transforms into pretty fluttering butterflies. As the camera follows the butterflies, we are greeted to Taylor’s character having a dispute with Brendon Urie from Panic! At the Disco. Swift has always been a fan of the rock singer. When she was writing the chorus of the song, she knew Urie would be the perfect candidate to collaborate with. In the rest of the video, the audience is taken through different scenes as Swift and Urie sing about self-love and confidence. Throughout the song, ME! celebrates individuality and accepting who you are as a person. Swift stated in an interview with Robin Roberts that she wanted to utilize the pop song to curate a catchy tune that allowed people to see a better version of themselves.

ME! is definitely a symbol of the singer’s own journey of accepting herself. In her previous album, especially in the song Delicate, Swift indicated doubt in not only in herself but also her romantic relationship. However, she states in ME! that “I promise that you’ll never find another like me.” This stanza contradicts her feelings from her previous era. I enjoy the tune and can not wait to see what she has in store for her new music.

If you have not had a chance to listen to ME! or want to listen to her past music, you can find them here.
