How to Have a Staycation this Spring Break in Kansas City

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UMKC chapter.

It’s finally March, which means spring break is this month! The warmer weather is here and midterms are almost over. We’re all excited to take a much needed break from school, but if you’re bummed that you can’t take a trip this year, there are tons of fun places here to make your staycation in KC a little more exciting!

Lunch at Songbird Cafe

The Songbird Cafe is located in downtown Kansas City and has a huge variety of fresh and healthy food and drinks. Something unique about this cafe is that they have live musical performances. You can check their website here to find out when they are having their next event. It’s a great spot if you’re looking to try something new!

Lunch at Cafe Gratitude

Cafe Gratitude is a vegan restaurant in the Crossroads that is perfect to go to with a group of friends. Even though I’m not vegan, I thought everything on the menu looked great and there was a large variety of different types of food. The uplifting atmosphere and sustainable menu makes it the perfect place to take your vegan friends!

Thrifting at Clothez Minded

Clothz Minded is different from a lot of thrift stores in Kansas City because the clothing selection is highly curated by the owner. You don’t have to sift through clothing with stains or eccentric cat t-shirts from Forever 21 (unless you’re into that). The girls that work there are really nice and it’s always good to support local businesses!

Saturday Morning at the River Market

The River Market is a go-to for all Kansas Citians. Whether you get some bubble tea or fresh flowers, it’s such a fun way to kick off your Saturday morning. Click here for more info!

Coffee at the Unbakery and Juicery

There’s just something about the light and airy atmosphere of the Unbakery. The drinks are so unique and there’s outdoor seating if the weather is nice. The location is pretty small, so it would be better suited for small groups.

Take a trip to the Kansas City Zoo

If you aren’t from KC, you might not have gone to the zoo yet. I’m excited to go because it’s a great place to enjoy the warm weather. Click here to look at tickets and pricing.

It can be disappointing to see everyone’s vacation pictures while you’re at home, but hopefully this inspires you to explore the city and enjoy your break from school. Happy Staycationing!
