Holiday Movies You Need to Check Out On Netflix

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UMKC chapter.

Recently, Netflix has started to introduce more holiday films in its movie collection. In the past, Netflix has had classics like “Love Actually” and “Elf.” Although they are not available to the streaming service, Netflix has numerous other holiday movies that are worth the watch. I have watched many of these movies and rounded up my favorites. Here is a list of films that you need to check out this holiday season.

“Let It Snow”

This film, which is a Netflix original that was released this year, is about a group of high schoolers who are brought together on Christmas Eve when a snowstorm hits their small town. I enjoyed the light heartedness and cheesy romance aspects of the movie. However, if you are looking for a movie that has an interesting plot, this movie may not be for you. Some of the characters are underdeveloped and the plot is very predictable. Despite this, it is a good movie to watch and laugh with your friends.

“Miss Me This Christmas”

The movie begins with Regina and her husband, Franklin, deciding to get a divorce during   Thanksgiving. When Christmas approaches, she must decide whether she wants to save or terminate her marriage. Although this movie is not considered to not be of “cinematic excellence,” I thought it was interesting and hilarious. Additionally, “ You Can’t Fight Christmas,” another film that is available on Netflix, contains a plot that coincides with this movie. They share several of the same scenes together.

“The Holiday Calendar”

This movie is probably my favorite on the list. In the film, a photographer is presented with an advent calendar that predicts the future events of her romance. The main characters had good chemistry and were able to get the audience in the holiday spirit. If you enjoy romantic comedies, you will like this film.

The Grinch

A modern take on the classic movie, the Grinch and his dog, Max, live outside the town of Whoville to enjoy peace and quiet. He grows upset when the civilians are behaving loudly while celebrating Christmas. Because of this, he plans a way to silence their holiday cheer. I grew up watching Dr. Seuss movies and I really like how they enhanced this classic story. There were many scenes that made me laugh.

Holiday movies are a perfect way to commemorate the season. It’s fun to watch films and make jokes regardless if they are good or bad. If you would like to check out these movies or browse through Netflix’s catalog, click here.
