Winter Wonderland Wins

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UK chapter.

When it comes to the four seasons, winter is the Monday (everyone dreads it), which is totally unfair. Why? Because winter is the most wonderful time of the year.

Here are the top 10 reasons why winter is more like a Friday. TGIW (Thank God It’s Winter)!

1. Winter fashion

There’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing. If you dress the part, winter should have nothing on you. You’re lying if you don’t love layers. Layers are the key to winter warmth and they look great if coordinated properly. Sweaters and vests are a girl’s best friend, and everyone loves leggings, bean boots and scarves, because they’re just downright fun!

2. Snow

There’s nothing quite as beautiful as snow-covered tree branches. Snow makes the world go round. Snow also gives us the opportunity to make snowmen and snow angels, go skiing, snowboarding, sledding and every other fun winter activity you can think of.

3. Snow days

Sure, they might be rare here in Lexington, but snow days are a top reason why winter is a cherished time of year. The hope for a snow day also reminds us of quirky childhood rituals (wooden spoon under your pillow, anyone?).

4. Basketball season

There aren’t many better places to be in the winter than Rupp Arena. Basketball season is in full-swing come wintertime, so we’ll add Kentucky basketball to the list.

5. Dark nail polish

I’ve found that most women are fans of dark nail polish colors and winter is the prime season for it! Embrace the season of dark purples and greens!

6. Rosy cheeks

Forget blush! There’s not a better time of year for rosy cheeks. The cold winter wind ensures adorable rosy cheeks you create artificially at all other times of the year.

7. Netflix binges

Winter is the ultimate Netflix season. If the weather is unbearable and there isn’t much to do, Netflix is often the answer.\

8. Curling up with a book

Besides vacation, winter is the best season for reading. Snuggling up with a great read is a total winter activity.

9. Minimal shaving

Don’t lie. One of the best parts about winter is not having to shave as often. Thank you, long pants!

10. No humidity

I had to save the best for last. No one likes humidity and there’s none of that during the winter season.

So, when you look at it this way, you’ll totally like winter!

"Sam I am," and I LOVE to read. Whether it's Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" or The Mortal Instruments series, I'm always reading. And when I'm not reading, I'm writing; English papers, magazine editorials, you name it! Italian food is my favorite, shoe shopping is my addiction, and I hate cold weather. I'm also a proud member of Slytherin house (we're not all bad, I swear).
