Why MTV’s ‘Siesta Key’ Should Be Your Guilty Pleasure Show

It is a rare occasion when my TV is on anything other than ESPN (when I do somehow have the time to watch TV). However, on Monday nights at 10 p.m. you will find me in bed, with my eyes glued to the screen, watching ‘Siesta Key’ on MTV.

Now when I go into detail about this show, I know exactly what you are going to say, “Oh my gosh, another girly reality TV show.” And you are absolutely right, it is and a terrible one at that. But I just cannot stop watching it.

The plot line goes a little something like this…

There is a group of seven snotty, rich, overly dramatic, but physically attractive 20-something-year-olds that live in Siesta Key, Florida. All seven of these people fall into the “still living off of mommy and daddy’s money” stereotype, and it is honestly pretty nauseating because they are filthy-freaking-rich.

Now let me introduce you to the cast:

  • Alex, he is like that one guy you graduated high school with who no one really likes and gets talked about, but somehow uses his good looks and money to get all the girls. He is what I like to refer to as, a “man-hoe.” He also runs his mouth a lot. Reason number 539 why nobody really likes him.

  • Juliette, snobby rich girl who is a “grade A” brat. She is stunning, I will credit where credit is due. However, she is totally obsessed with Alex, but does not want to admit it. So much so that it makes her look desperate. As the first season goes on, she gets involved with Garrett (who is total babe who I will introduce later), and she ultimately breaks his heart. I will not spill the beans as to how she does this, just in case you want to watch it for yourself.

  • Garrett, the total babe that I just mentioned in the last bullet point. He is the fitness freak who is aspiring to be a personal trainer and let me tell you… he is beautiful. By far my favorite guy on the show. He is the definition of the quiet, boy-next-door, who continues to get screwed over by these psychotic females, like Juliette and Kelsey.

  • Kelsey, I use to really like her. When the show first started she was the “new girl in town” because she had just moved to Siesta Key. Garrett was the first friend she made in Florida. Low and behold, they end up dating. So cute! This was all before Kelsey met Alex. Then she caught the feels for him… for whatever reason… so annoying. She cheats on Garrett, even though she still denies it and ends up dating Alex for a short period of time. Poor Garrett.

  • Madisson, she is definitely my favorite girl on the show. She just got back from studying engineering for four years. She dated Alex back in high school (no shocker there), but she eventually realized he sucked when she moved away to college. She is an all-around sweet girl with big dreams and is definitely the peace-maker of the group. She is currently dating Brandon, who I will introduce next. They make the cutest couple! (However, I do not think things are going to end well.)

  • Brandon, I am unsure how I feel about Brandon at this point. He is an aspiring musician, but not the typical “wanna-be-rapper douchebag.” He has a good heart and good intentions… or so I thought. It seems as though he has not been as faithful to Madisson as everyone thought.

  • Chloe, I do not really understand what Chole’s roll is in this show other than to start drama. She used to be Alex’s best friend when the show first started. But, she has since grown apart from him, and they no longer speak. During the first season Chloe was ALWAYS the root of everyone’s issues. This season so far, not so much. It seems like she has mellowed out some.

BE AWARE! Once you start this show, you will not be able to stop watching it. I never said it was a high quality show, but it is definitely addicting. I mean, I love sitting in the comfort of my own home, laughing my butt off at other people’s unfortunate life situations and drama.
