Why I’ll Never Go Back to Using Non-Natural Based Shampoo

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UK chapter.

I like to think that I am a low maintenance female.

99.9 percent of the time when you see me my hair is either pulled back into a ponytail, in a bun on the top of my head or I have a ballcap on.

I never thought there was anything wrong with my hair other than it’s just naturally thin and I shed a lot. (Gross, I know).

But it wasn’t until a long-time family friend of mine, Heather Tilley, invited me to join a Facebook group that she created to start selling a haircare line called “Monat.”

Monat is a natural based haircare line. None of their products have any parabens, sulfates, cyclic silicones, no petrolatum or mineral oil, no gluten, harmful colors or harmful fragrances. They also only use vegan products in all of their products.

Heather use to do hair for a living before she became a mom for the first time. Any advice she has about my hair I’m always all-ears because she knows what she’s talking about. She started posting before and after pictures of her hair when she started using Monat products. And let me tell you all, they were mind-boggling!

“There is a little confusion out there with the ‘all natural’ label. Monat is naturally based rather than all natural. So that means they use natural ingredients when they can, but science and technology when they can to make a product that works,” Tilley said. “There are lots of products out there that focus on hair growth aren’t naturally based at all, so this is a great alternative to those.”

How could her hair look so good just after one wash with Monat products? What really got me asking questions was when she posted about only having to wash her hair once or twice a week.

WHAT!? I’m here for it. I barely have time to eat, let alone wash my hair all the time.

I began asking Heather questions about this haircare line and she graciously gave me some samples to try. I was hesitant for two reasons: one, I am just naturally skeptical because I’m a journalist and two, the price of these products made me nauseous because they’re honestly pretty high. (Your girl is a broke college student.)

I didn’t want to try these products, fall in love with them and then spend all of my hard-earned money on hair products that I didn’t necessarily need.

From the moment I tried the samples I was hooked. My hair felt so much lighter, softer and had so much more natural body to it after just one wash!

I thought I was in trouble. How was I ever going to afford these products? Heather eased my mind though and told me just to take a leap of faith, I’m so thankful that I did!

“I would tell anyone hesitant to try, if it’s something you’re remotely interested in, just do it,” she said. “I was hesitant, and I wish I had started sooner! They offer a 30-day money back guarantee so if it’s not a fit for you, you really have nothing to lose!”

I ordered my first set of shampoo, conditioner and Air Dry Cream at the end of June and I just now had to order a new bottle of shampoo because I was running low. The bottle is only 8-ounces! I would go through massive bottles of TREemme shampoo within a month or so and I would have to wash my hair every other day. Not anymore with Monat!

If you’re hesitant to try this haircare line, don’t be! There are many ways to help you find the right hair system for you by visiting the Monat website.

Heather also required me to take a hair quiz before I purchased any Monat products. After taking the quiz she messaged me back with my results and suggested the three-step system that would be best for my hair! She also has a Facebook group for those who are using Monat or want to start using it. In this group she posts information about flash sales and she also shares all of her hair tips and tricks!

Now that I’ve tried these amazing products I will never go back to regular shampoo, I think my hair will forever praise me for it.
